View Full Version : Ebay Hood Scoop Splitter
SNovotny 08-01-2004, 05:40 PM I installed one of the hood scoop splitters today that are available on ebay. It's made of aluminum and very light weight. Build quality is perfect, no problems fitting at all. It looks like its going to make a huge difference though. The only problem I ran into was getting the one damn plastic push screw off. Thats my car/me though, most people probably dont have that problem... Anyways, Just thought I would give you guys a heads up on this cheap and effective mod.
BTW, more are available:

psyber_0ptix 08-25-2004, 10:12 AM no love for the gc? ;)
ilara72 08-25-2004, 08:18 PM Does it seal completely with the IC? You'd be surprised the huge difference a leak can make. I have a GT Spec splitter which doesn't seal at all. I sealed it and there is a very noticible difference in IC temps after going for a drive. Before, the IC would be warm. Now, its nice and cool.

samagon 08-26-2004, 01:55 PM this splitter is not a complete thingy like the zerosport or others, it is something you use in addition to your stock unit, so you do not lose the seal from the factory splitter, this unit just goes in there to direct some of the air to the front of the IC, instead of all to the back.
0260B4U 09-23-2004, 10:21 PM yeah I got one, work great for 15 bucks+shipping
Jared703 09-27-2004, 11:06 AM yeah I got one, work great for 15 bucks+shipping
just bought one myself. I'm hoping its fit and finish is good too.
Eleazar 09-28-2004, 01:43 AM I thought I'd add to list of happy customers. I got mine from ebay from subiewrx. It works great.. the IC is now cool on the top AND bottom half after some hard driving.
Jungdragon 09-29-2004, 11:05 AM In the ebay link for the 02-03 splitter with the picture looking into the hoodscoop, what is that grey part to the left of the splitter? It looks really unsightly, I thought there are only two screws needed at the bottom to attach it.
Hank3 09-29-2004, 11:50 AM I think it's part of the stock splitter; nothing to do with what you're buying/getting from him. I too purchased this (about three months or more now) and it's been great. Very easy to install and I painted mine flat black to make it a tadbit more stealth :p
sniece 10-06-2004, 12:10 AM On a related note of trying to cram the air into the i/c more efficiently, has anyone tried one of the 'STi style' fibreglass scoops that are on Ebay?

I'm just wondering about the fit and finish. Obviously they need to be painted, but are they a decent buy otherwise?
Thanks,
Stephen
Jungdragon 10-06-2004, 01:27 AM I just bought one the splitter on ebay a couple days ago. So how exactly do I install it, it seems like I have to drill two holes?
Jungdragon 10-12-2004, 10:03 PM Well I got mine a couple days ago and installed it. The instructions are not very clear although the installation is rather simple. If you want the splitter to fit exactly perfect it may take a while longer and seemed like a heck of a lot of work to drill out two holes.
The intercooler does seem a little cooler after driving and the shiny piece looks nice from under the hoodscoop. It's rather expensive at ~$30 but I don't have the tools or parts to make one myself.
feiron 10-25-2004, 02:43 AM sweet... I'm gonna hunt for one in ebay
drees 11-21-2004, 08:19 PM Installed my eBay splitter (sold by subie2002wrx (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQcatrefZC6QQfromZR7QQnojsprZyQQnojsprZyQQpfidZ 0QQsacategoryZQ2d1QQsassZsubie2002wrxQQsatitleZQQs inceZ30QQsofindtypeZ15QQsofocusZbsQQsorecordsperpa geZ50QQsorecordsperpageZ50QQsosortorderZ1QQsosortp ropertyZ1)). Comes with everything you need, and installation instructions are good. The only slightly tricky parts of the install are removing the 2 bolts hidden by the underhood sound deadening (just hold it back with one hand while using an 8mm rench to loosen) and then marking and drilling the 2 7/32" holes for mounting. Here's a few pics (sorry, the brightness needs to be adjusted for some of the pics):
Splitter and mounting hardware. The splitter itself is 1/8" sheet aluminum. Mounting hardware is steel (not stainless). You can see the marks I made for the 7/32" holes.

Holes are drilled. Behind the splitter is the stock scoop assembly.

con40 11-22-2004, 07:44 PM heck yeah very nice write up and where did you get the hoodscoop?
drees 11-22-2004, 08:34 PM Bought the scoop used off a fellow NASIOC member. Plenty of the vendors sell the real STi scoops for about $135 unpainted, and around $185 painted.
