I went out today to get a couple of quotes on some paint work that I want done on the car. Basically I want the side skirts painted, the radio antenna and trunk lock removed welded closed and painted to match, and I also have an STi version V wing that I want painted and mounted. The three quotes that I got ranged from $750 to $1000. Are these guotes in the palk park for this kind of work or are they trying to rape me. Also I live in South Jersey so if anybody could recommend a place around here that can do the work for cheaper I am all ears.

Thanks in advance
Andy

If those quotes are for all that work, they all sound pretty reasonable. I wouldn't trust just anyone to shave the trunk lock and antennae, though, I'd go with a good place and then check the price.

8 --- All the places that I went to came highly recommened from people that I know that Had similar work done to their cars. It's just that I was curios as to whether or not that price I was given for all of the work was about what others had paid for similar work to their cars. Believe I could never trust my baby to just anyone http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/biggrin.gif

Well can't speak for East Coast...but in Washington that is a very good price. At my shop it would cost you about $1200.00 to $1400.00 for that kind of work.

I just went to http://www.paintworldinc.com/ and bought spray cans of paint made in my car color and painted myself. It looks pretty profesional if you know what you're doing. It only cost me 80bucks for 4 cans and 2 cans of clear coat.

Spray paint? Uh, er, I dunno about that...

As for all that shaving, well, $1000 sounds like a fair price. Just for kicks I asked how much it would cost to get my door handles shaved, my antenna shaved and remounted to the rear (similar to the Altezza) and the price was, uh, higher than $1000. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif

i also looked into having my door handle shaved. I was quoted 1200 without parts. I'm gonna have my wing painted by the shop recomended by the dealership for 150 beans. they said they'd do the sides for 75, but i'm not too sure that price is for both.

Before you guys get shave happy...

(quote on girl's shirt - the more I shave, the more he likes it!)

Shaving your driver's side door handle is illegal in *many* forms of racing, including 1/4 mile and most autocross/track events.

I love shaved out cars as much as anybody, but the more body work you do to a car, the heavier it gets.

Just a thought. If they weld the antenna hole closed what stops welding slag to get into the A pillar (The frame that the antenna is mounted in) If that happens you have raw metal down in there that will rust and take out the pillar in time. Now I'm talking a couple of years but do you really want the main support of you roof rusting out just to get rid of the antenna? your choice. I personaly hate the antenna but don't want to have a problem with the A pillar in the future. I have 12 years in the automotive detailing business and there are certain things that just lend them selves to causing problems in the long run.

I don't like to rain on peoples parades, just have a real good talk with the body shop to see if they'll ensure it won't rust out.
