In a couple weeks I am getting my new 05 WRX 5MT. It will be my first MT car. I have driven an mt car once b4. Anyways how long will I expect the transmission to be trouble free if I baby it (which I will like my motorcycles and atvs). Babying it in my opinion means: Regular oil changes, no poping the clutch, basic check ups for linkage being in adjustment, and maby once in awhile just open it up to see what she can do (like once every week or 2 weeks for a mile or 2). I know a clutch change will be nessacery at 70,000 or something around there since this is what I have read on the net, but it seems easy to change one. (cousins VW passat which was the first mt car I have driven just turned over 250,000 kilometers and the clutch is still good. I say kilometers since this was in poland)

EDIT: also what is the easiest way to get it into first since 99% of people have trouble?

As long as you take care of your car/transmission, it will take care of you. I think it would be safe to say that it will last as long as you own your car, granted that you don't abuse it or cause it uneccessary wear.

As for getting in first... double clutch/rev matching will get you in first when you're moving. You can search the forums for instructions on double clutch shifting/rev-matching if you are not familiar with the technique (there are numerous threads on the subject).
