It doesn't have to be Utec LC any LC. How much time do you shave off the 1/4 using LC and flat foot shifting?
I just got it hooked up in my Sti. I just want to know if it is worth using the next time I go to the track. If it will shave a couple of .1's I might give it a try.

Thanks

at least 0.2 seconds at a guess. I find it makes for better consistency for sure.

I have a stock Ver7 swap in my WRX with a JDM STi ECU. I am trying to avoid using a UTEC so a launch control will not really be in my future. Howver using the rev in the 5500 to 6000 range on my launch with a 6000 release I was able to pull a 12.62 1.78 60' . Now that I found the better combo for launching I have to see if I can get my 60' down to something a lil more respectable  :p

I recently had the same swap done! Mine was COMPLETE, with everything possible.

In addition to the swap, I had TXS turbo-back, intake, MRT large top-mount, and a few other goodies...

That time that you ran, how many pounds of boost were you running, and what set-up do you have???

Sorry for the temporary hijack... I need answers!!!!

Well I decided to use the flat foot shifting and not launch with the LC. The LC seems like it causes to much wheel spin off the line. If I turn the LC down so there is not much wheel spin off the line then it feel useless for FF shifting.

how does it feel useless for ff shifting with the lc turned down?

My entire setup consists of a 2002 EJ207 6MT STi ECU, APS 3' win Tip exhaust with cat, APS intake pod, T-XS FMIC and a HKS EVC5 boost controller. It is untuned and running 17' Nitto Neo-Gens with around a 6000 rpm launch and shifting @ 7000. Also not flat shifting on first second or 5th as I broke my 5th syncro. Made a 12.62 1.78 60' 105 and a 12.72 if I remember correctly? @ 108.06.

However I have functioning AVCS and Ver7 Spec(unknown) heads with factorly tumbler delete and the big JDM STi cams. As I said it is a stock 2002 STi swap with minor bolt ons. So in Japan they have some serious cars :D :D

What do you have it set at. I find for flat shifting 5500 makes a nice smooth shift in most gears if you take it up to 6800-7000.

Have you taken any logs while running it? My STI will hold 13+psi between shifts with LC on.

I have only tried to launch the car once with the LC. I had it set to 4000 and the wheels just spun for ~20ft. Using the FF shifting at 4000 made the car buck pretty bad. So I set the LC to 5500 and the FF shifting is so smooth. But I am afraid to launch the car with the LC set to 5500. I just think the tires will spin for ever, but I have not tried it.

i have my launch control set for 6k i turned it up to 6200 and would spin through first and a bit into second..

i think the flat foot shifting is awesome, it feels smoother with it on then just shifting alone..

I agree that the flat shifting feels so much smoother. It's kinda funny, the smoother the run feels normally the better time I get. I just wish my trans would let me flat 1st to 2nd and 5th is broken so it grinds in even with the clutch

you may be confusing flat foot shifting with powershifting

i use my clutch

My bad...I meant to say lifting the gas not using the clutch. Yeah I flat shift as in gas on the floor along with using the clutch. Just now I have to blip the gas going into 5th....1st to 2nd too cause it's a 50/50 that I will grind

Maybe...but I'm in the mid 12's and a 6 speed dogbox is the next step after a tune :disco:

I believe that run was on 21Psi if I stand correct.

Thats great and all, but that can be done with an STi with only a UTEC and a TBE, and you dont need to beat the life out of the tranny to do it either.

Much like the rest of the guys that are running really fast in their WRX's... its only a matter of time till it pukes its guts. (unless driven like a wuss, and thats no fun at all)

All that abuse for the little gains you get is just not worth it. I been there, done that.
2 wrx trannys later i know a little better.

And if you think the 6 speed is the solution, think again. You can wipe out the syncros in that just as you did in the 5speed.

The 12.62 was on 21psi the very last run that did a 108 was with it turned up to 23 or so? I just made an appointment for an Ecutek tune on the 19 this month in preperation for the WRX EVO shootout...

Yeah but I do not have the extra .5 liters to help me at this point. When I got the car it was a hands off deal daily driver. When I took all the teeth off 2nd and wound up doing a V7 swap I was happy till I went to E town...then thebeat it like you stole it mentality set in
I'm getting a tune now and then after that I may go for a green or something bigger. I will continue to beat this thing untill I finish putting my 502 into my 69 Camaro and have a car more fitting for quarter mile thrashing! However for now I need something more fitting for the WRX EVO meet at E town ;)

So you, like me know better but your brain just goes into kill mode when you pull up to the tree?

I have recently had to work on relaxing and being easier on my car at the track. Shifting slower and launching easier  go figure!

Yup Exactly...
I have only been beaten by a few cars...one of witch you would like too. A V6 GTA clone as it was a red TA that had a GN motor in it. He ran a low 12 and then left the track? Got beat by a Vortech blown Stang and a 2004Eclipse with a Procharger that ran a 10.38 and then got booted for no rollbar.

When I pull up to the tree it's a go for broke deal, and I seem to be succeding as I slowly break. I love sucking up the midlife crisis Vettes and the LT1 Camaro's tho...

Im thinking about the LC. Just to use it on the launch and speed shifting. Quick shift and letting off the gas a little. If your quick enough you can be just as good as powershifting and easier on the tranny.

What RPM should the LC be set at just for launch?

it really depends on alot of factors, turbo,tires/rims, etc bigger turbos need to set it a tad higher to come off the line in solid boost..
