View Full Version : Anyone got any stock wheels/tires I could borrow?
eurojax 08-11-2004, 10:05 AM So, I'm thinking about painting my ****ty 16" Focal R3's black. Like so, sort of:

Unfortunately I don't have access to another set of wheels/tires.
Does anyone have any stockers that I could borrow? If it's planned correctly, I would only have them for 3 days max. I don't really have any money to give, but I could buy someone a round.
Also, how much would I be looking at spending to get tires taken off wheels and then put back on again after I'm done painting?
Hopefully someone has a set lying around.
Thanks gentlemen!
-Tyler
I have my set sitting in office, think they have about 3 or 4k miles on rims and tires, your welcome to use them for the few days you need them.

eurojax 08-11-2004, 10:20 PM Hmm.... I just read a couple DIY wheel painting writeups and they actually painted with the wheel still on. I might give that a try and see if it works out.
Thanks a lot Jair, if my first try sucks I'll give you a call!

Use the wheels and tires from Jair and take your time on yours. No need to dismount the tires, just tape them up real good. If you take your time, they will turn out good. Shiza in=Shiza out

Polished lip would be pretty hard, but it looks alright. Hmm... Might give it a try.

There is a Powdercoating place on Dowling that did my old rims on my RS. But it was not cheap, but now I cannot remember if it was $75-80 per rim or $120-140 per rim. I know you have to pay for the bead blasting and then to have them powdercoated. Kapa, do you remember the cost?
It held up really well, used them as my winters and never had a problem!
Wes_FSTGDB 08-12-2004, 05:35 PM I'd say go black or gunmetal. It look spretty good on the silver, I think it's hot! :D

eurojax 08-13-2004, 09:36 AM Well, I got one side done today, it's a pretty drawn out process, but I'll have it streamlined for the other side.

I'm actually pretty impressed with it.
I tried the polished lip thing, it didn't work out too well. The lip and the fins that connect to the hub are completely flat, so I basically had to freehand the lip. It just didn't look right.

Yep, all black, riding on what looks like nothing, now.
