View Full Version : First time at 1/8 mile track...how did i do???
hangten93 08-12-2004, 12:40 AM Ive never raced my sooby before but i thought what the hell and went to the local 1/8 mile track i was wondering if this is decent... 60':2.249 1/8: 9.877 MPH: 72.4
it was my first time at the track with an 02 wrx with catback exaust and sti flywheel.... any input is good...tips? how'd i do?
kedrin 08-12-2004, 12:56 AM crappy
but it takes about 20 runs to get a good 60 foot time. i should know i couldnt cut better than a 2 second 60 foot time until i ran my car about 20 times.
you should atleast be able to make a 1.9 second 60 foot time
MustGoFast 08-12-2004, 01:39 AM yeah he's not being mean but 2.25 is a terrible 60' time.... 1.8 in the wrx is a pretty solid launch anything above 2.0 is just aweful.
hangten93 08-12-2004, 02:34 AM lol ya i knew i did really bad and i only got 2 runs in (first 2 ever), but i was jw about a good time for a stock wrx in the 1/8 mile...
hangten93 08-12-2004, 02:42 AM well ill update this next week after i get some practice bc it sounds to me like i need some, what is ur best 1/8 mile time in stock (or near stock) wrx??
hangten93 08-12-2004, 02:44 AM well it looks like im not the only one....lol..sorry if this is yours http://mywebpages.comcast.net/djspace/timeslips/index.html
neversatisfied 08-12-2004, 11:41 AM Thats not a very good time at all. 1/8 mile time is well over a half of a second slower than where you could be and 60' time is very high. Keep practicing and I think you can cut that time down some.
hangten93 08-12-2004, 12:49 PM should i wait untill redline to shift?
MustGoFast 08-12-2004, 01:13 PM yes... if your stock you want to run out each gear and probably finish near the rev limiter in 3rd if running a full 1/4 as the gearing is really not optimal... also if you spin 1st hold it longer than you think you need to to let traction catch up so you don't end up bogging 2nd... First time I went to the track I would spin so hard in first then shift to second at 7K but really the car wasn't going nearly fast enough do to the wheel spin.. so I would bog the heck outta second and kill my times.
robvas 08-12-2004, 02:51 PM 9.2 @ 74 would be more like it, with at least a 1.9 60 foot
V6TurboTA 08-12-2004, 04:43 PM I wouldnt go back if I were you :D

hangten93 08-12-2004, 06:25 PM ok... thanks for the encouraging words guys you suck, b.t.w. im still getting used to a new clutch
John Sever 08-12-2004, 08:56 PM haha, don't get your panties in a bunch man...:D It's gonna take some runs to get that 60' dialed in right. Hell, im running slower in my Sti then I was with my stg 3 wrx, and the Sti has a bunch of mods. I should be pissed but I know in my case it's a tuning issue. I was cutting 1.79 60' in the the Wrx and now a 1.71 60' in the Sti. It is hard to launch a stock Wrx. It only sees like 8psi in first so it's kinda tricky to learn to nail a nice launch. Engine management would help you in lauching tremenously, as it will raise the boost quite a bit in first.
neversatisfied 08-13-2004, 06:11 PM Get a Utec and hook up the 2 step. You would be sure to hit some 2.0-1.9s then. My suggestions is too keep practicing and read in the FAQs about how to launch. You will get it sooner or later.
DrKicker 08-13-2004, 06:38 PM Like most people said, keep practicing that launch. I ran 9.0x's in the 1/8th after I got the launch figured out with only a catback and K&N drop in. Search on launch techniques and read each approach and see which works best for you.
humara 08-14-2004, 06:02 AM This may be a stupid question. Is it really that much harder to build a 1/4 mile track? What is up with 1/8 mile tracks. I guess its twice as far to build a 1/4 mile, but wouldn't a track owner want that extra little bit?
hangten93 08-14-2004, 01:20 PM on this one i dont think there is enough land
