View Full Version : New goodies (pics, 56k ok for now)
KIMUTAKU 08-17-2004, 10:36 PM Just got RSR GT2 exhaust + RSR downpipe.. i'm very pleased with the quality.. perfect fittment! however, the downpipe is jdm spec, so it will not fit ANY other exhaust, not even stock..
better pics coming..

do i need to reset my ecu? i'm still running it in, haven't push it yet..
but with the silencer, it's still pretty loud.. and i'm having a hard time getting it out.. :p
[YeS.SiR] 08-17-2004, 10:49 PM Lookin' good, from what I see.
Give us some details! What's the size on that thing? How did the install go?
Happy_Days 08-17-2004, 11:13 PM You dont have to reset in my own opinion, give your car about a good week or two of driving and you should feel the full gains. (ecu learns slow, like hypa's car)
muahhaahha...
KIMUTAKU 08-18-2004, 01:01 AM better pics..

Ricewagon 08-18-2004, 01:06 AM REV does pretty good work too. David installed my sbc id and power meter on the weekend.
KIMUTAKU 08-18-2004, 03:04 AM full 3 inch.. bellmouth design.. stainless steel.. install went very well... took about 2 hours.. it's best to have another set of hands just to help out..
give me a few days to test it out.. i'm still taking it easy to let the whole thing run it as david suggested..
yea i chose REV because they know these cars well..
Also thanks HappyDays for the cel fix.. :)
[YeS.SiR] 08-18-2004, 04:08 AM I'll need a place to do uppipe+turboback install sometime soon ... may I ask how much for the turboback install?
KIMUTAKU 08-18-2004, 04:22 AM install was free.. (well, included in the price)
a little less than $1500 total..
but for uppipe, REV does charge ~150 for install even if u buy from them i think..
ThEdOg 08-18-2004, 12:05 PM i miss my old wheel
Gethin 08-18-2004, 01:19 PM How much for that downpipe? It looks like a very nice design.
I hope that you are putting back on the heatshield? The Turbo and exhaust gets *very* hot there and you will get serious heatsoak in the surrounding components.
Have you done the uppipe yet?
Gethin.
KIMUTAKU 08-18-2004, 03:17 PM dp was $6xx including taxes and install..
the stock heat shield doesn't fit anymore..
any suggestion on aftermarket ones? i was thinking about the cusco one..
unfortuntely i have not done the uppipe because REV was out of stock.. but it sure is my next upgrade..
Benjamin Tang 08-18-2004, 05:00 PM ask gerry at specialty about the heat shield. i was told my stock td04 shield wouldn't fit my vf39 and turboxs downpipe but he made it work.
KIMUTAKU 08-19-2004, 04:04 AM do u have a pic??? i don't see how it will work.. =(
Gethin 08-19-2004, 03:24 PM You can mod the stock heat shield to fit any size. Just need to use a cut off wheel. IMHO I would not run without one, you are going to toast something.
KIMUTAKU 08-19-2004, 04:45 PM i know the stock one can be modded to fit.. but it requires some major trimming iirc..
i like to keep my stock parts in shape.. so i'm probably gonna buy an aftermarket one or custom make one..
the speekmonkey one looks interesting..
feiron 08-20-2004, 03:16 AM ask gerry at specialty about the heat shield. i was told my stock td04 shield wouldn't fit my vf39 and turboxs downpipe but he made it work.
gerry @ north van rite? ya he's good w/ that stuff
are you the benjamin w/ sti projector lights? if yes where'd you get the light motor from, and who installed it? I think I need it too for my lights (pattern's screwed)
impulse777 08-20-2004, 12:16 PM Kitmutaku, let me know what heat shield you get (I don't want to cut my stock one either). Why did you choose rsr?.I paid a couple of hundred more (installed w/cell fix).Have you been able to get the silencer out yet? if not I'll pull it out for you were are both in van right. Later...........Justin
impulse777 08-20-2004, 12:20 PM Oh Yeah. One thing I noticed the bolt to pull the battery cable is the same size as the one on the silencer. Is that a coincidence I don't think so.
b14st 08-20-2004, 01:57 PM dp was $6xx including taxes and install..
the stock heat shield doesn't fit anymore..
you can cut the stock heat shield to make it fit :)
KIMUTAKU 08-20-2004, 02:38 PM impulse777: i'm probably going for the cusco one.. it looks pretty well made.. but a bit pricey..
i like the rsr gt2 because it's low profile.. like it sits nice under the car and the pipe isn't hanging low or anything.. i chose the dp mainly because it mates perfectly with the exhaust.. i read too many posts about leaks when you mix and match..
still no luck in getting the silencer out.. it seems like it is impossible to just pull it out.. probably need some magic tools like a hook.. appreicate if you could help.. =)

Maybe it's welded in.
I dremeled the stock heatshield of a wrx and sti.. seems to still do it's job, you just need to make room for the Big bellmouth transition to 3".
KIMUTAKU 08-20-2004, 05:20 PM i got an idea of how to remove the silencer..
i might try removing the bolt, and rip it around the neighbourhood (in a safe way of course).. see if the thing gets blown out..

On the contrary... people have let silencers just rattle when it's new.. and after a few months the carbon build up from not having cats actually makes the silencer stop rattling.
