i have a 2005 wrx sti with aroudn 1000 miles. but want more power already. if i was to get the fp D05H 18G. what else would i need to support this turbo and have it be safe and reliable. and would i see a good increase in power? what type of gains would i see as well. i know it would not be serious power but jw. thanks sam

injectors, fuel pump, TBE exhaust, up pipe, EM, and if you want throw in a new intercooler for increase power (its not required).

get a turboback and UTEC, that should hold you over for a little bit

why would he need an UpPipe Kedrin? The STI uppipe is already catless... just a waste of money there IMO.

But if you want to upgrade to an 18G you will need injectors, fuel pump, & EM at a minimum to run it safely. You will most like also want a TBE to open up the flow as there will be large gains had here on a bigger turbo. An intercooler is not necessary for a turbo of that size but would allow for slightly larger gains.

FWIW it's a TD05h-18g. Also you might want to either learn to tune a utec or other forum of management at lower power levels(stock turbo) with a wideband and/or an EGT gauge or something or you might want to include some professional tuning into your budget also. Supporting mods you would need (TBE(if you are going for a 7cm 5h-18g then you might run into some boost creep with that turbo with no porting to the turbine housing but thats a maybe), injectors(either modding stockers from a wrx and buying fuel rails for it or just buying the Perrin modded stock injectors which are side feeds for the STi application), Walbro fuel pump or something close to that (MK4 Supra fuel pump), management(ecutek, utec, etc, etc). Basically the same thingt hat MustGoFast said with a little extra;)

But, I have to say that I think if you are going to spend you cash on a 18g then you should look into a 6h-20g or a Superzilla(Green sized). You should be able to run either and relatively low boost levels for daily driving and you could have a better power potential and more "bang for the buck". Deadbolt speed has great prices and very complete turbos. FP also has very very good kits!!

Another thing that you could do is get you a used 5h-18g and then later on have Jerry at Deadbolt upgrade it to a Green when you get used to the power and then want more. Ah well, I hope your project goes well and congrats on wanting to start a new project:).

guy on the nabr site was running high 11's with one of these on his wrx.

Well we dynoed and tuned after being up all night tuning two other WRXs. We started off with a baseline of 196 whp @ 14.5psi with a 9.5:1 A/F ratio. We tuned the boost to 19.5 psi and 11.5:1 A/F ratio. Here is what we got. This is on a Dynapack AWD Dyno.

290 hp @ 6366 and stayed there until redline. Did not fall off at all.
252.7 ft/lb @ 4787 and stayed there until 6000 rpm where it fell off to 210 ft/lb by redline.

Injector duty cycles were at 92.5%. The car was tuned using ECUTek. The fuel that was used was a 2:1 mix of 93 octane pump gas and C16. There was no knock and timing was 32.5 degrees.

Car pulls very well. Front tires break loose in 2nd gear. For now I am using a TurboXS TMIC until I've got 1700.00 for the APS DR 650 FMIC. When I get to a scanner I will post links to the Dyno Plots.

No way that high 11's are possible with a stock weight wrx at 290 whp on a dynapak. Also, WRX and STi power and torque curves are VERY different!! Power will drop off in higher boost levels and higher power levels with a stock turbo, 16g, 18g, or 20g with a 2.5L. I can watch my boost levels drop a good 1.5 or 2 pounds up to redline if I am trying to run 21psi on pumpgas with the 5h-20g.

Maybe with nitrous. But, I mean 12.3 is probably all I would give a 290whp 18g'd WRX. I may have to eat my words but thats cool. I just don't see how it is possible.

No way 290whp on a Dynapack will yield an 11sec pass. Especially not at 116mph. I put down 346whp on a Dynojet which reads around the same, maybe a little higher, and I trapped 112mph.

Maybe he got someone else's timeslip. It has happened alot. I remember an integra that was running consistent 12.60s all night long pulled off a 11.40 @ 111mph, with a 1.2 60'. Funny thing was that he was racing a 8sec. 5.0 on gas who let off at the 1/8..
