Hey All!

Anyone know if I can attach a CD player, suppose one I bought at Car Toys, to a new 2000 Subie? without having to remove the tape deck...just a straight add-on underneath it. It wouldn't matter if it was professionaly installed, I just would like to get a CD player in that car. but those little portable CD players don't count. Thanks!

I had the factory CD and factory tape deck and I removed them both for a single cd player. The only connection the CD player had was a cable from the tape deck to the CD player.

If you wanted to keep everything factory and add a CD player, I would add the factory one. It is easy to hook up and will work fine. I would guess someone from this site would be willing to sell you theirs. I would post an add asking about it in the marketplace forum.

If you just want to keep tape & CD capabitites you could either add a CD changer or replace the factory tape with a double DIN unit that has both. There are quite a few on the market now.

You could wire up a second head unit on some type of switch or something, but I wouldn't go that route.

I guess it depends on what you want to spend and what you are trying to achieve. We can give you more specfic ideas with more information (budget, goals, etc.) Those are some general options that I can think of instead of working http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/wink.gif

Good Luck,

Aaron

What kind of cable is this? Can i splice into it with a portable MD player?

Thanks,

Ridinlow,

I am pretty sure if you knew what the pinouts were you could tap into this cable and use it, but I have no idea of how you would go about this. That is beyond my wire spicing abilities. http://208.9.184.110/NonCGI/wink.gif

My brain isn't working and I can't think of the name of the cable-type, but it is very similar to cd-changer cables. The radio and cd player are both clarion models so with some research I am sure you could come up with which pins do what. What would be nice is if it worked the same as the CD player and it automatcially switched to MD when it detected output from the MD player. It would be an interesting project. I am assuming the cable would have to be ordered from somewhere, if you don't have the factory radio and cd player.

I took a bunch of digital images during the install I will check tonight and see if I took one of the cable.

Does anybody have a picture of the stock CD player-to-stock-head-unit interface? It's -35 out with wind chill, -10 without, so I'm not about to go outside anytime soon!

thanks,

I just saw that the 00' OB has a disc changer as an option. I would be more interested in a disc changer than a single CD like I have in my 99' RS.
