Ok i'm about the purchase a set of hella 500s lights, my stockers are sandblasteed and nasty
now i was reading about the karboy mounting bracket which i will probably make
which looks like this
http://kartboy.com/newsite/images/piaamounts_r2_c2.gif
and they say to mount the lights by sliding the bolt thru that hole in the bottom middle of the backet.
but the lights look like this
http://www.rallylights.com/hella/images/500.jpg
the mounting bolt is in the bottom... does that mounting bolt swivel up and down verticaly so it will be able to slide in? I thought it was supposed to be mounted straight down?
please help

I have the mounts from Rallylights.com which are alot cheaper and IN STOCK!
The mount that comes on the hella 500 swivels a little over 90 degrees (13mm nut)

Yea, that bolt will swivel back. As for the two mounts, I say go with the kartboy, there is no chance of it shaking while driving. The rallylights one looks a little flimsy to me.

I hope you got some mesh covers or some acrylic shields to prevent the "sandblasting" effect again. :)

The Rally Lights mounts are make from 3/16" stainless and are quite sterdy. I don't have any bounce on them.

Contact Chad @ Rockblocker.com (http://www.rockblocker.com). I know he carries 3M stongard for Hella 500s. They may not be listed on his site, but I believe he carries them. I bought some a few days ago from him, and they work awesome.

Hellas should come with a plastic lens cover. If you're too lazy to take them off when you are driving through fog, they also make a clear plastic cover, but you have to pay for that.

Susquehanna Motorsports carries the clear lexan covers. Very nice. I have them for my FF1000s and 500s.

I just did this on my 00 RS. It was pretty involved and required taking off the bumper skin and such. Took me a little bit but it wasnt that bad, just time consuming. It also doesnt just mount to the bracket. You will have to drill a hole through the bumper cover thingy and put the big bolt all the way through. I used the K4RT3OY mounts and they are pretty slick. Plus you get sweet Kartboy stickers! Good luck. :)

Some kind of light protection is definitely recommended. No cracking with my factory fogs with Stongard in 35k miles, but two weeks after I installed the 500s one of the lights was smashed. *sigh*
I got the Hella clear covers from Susquehanna, and all has been well since. I can't imagine what I've spent on fogs in this car. ( to me )
