Crucial Racing Systems Cu-Seal gaskets are the first pure copper gaskets available for the full range of Subaru turbocharged engines. Embossed to concentrate 100% of the sealing power of the gasket at the exhaust port insures a tight, permanent, leak proof seal even on irregular surfaces. Now, even uppipes with irregular flange faces can be sealed with confidence.

Unabomber 09-08-2004, 06:43 PM Do these come with any type of warranty? Are they 100% copper or layered like the Subaru ones? If layered, how many metal and rubber (or whatever that is) layers?
MisterX 09-08-2004, 07:02 PM It's pretty hard to provide a warranty for a gasket. While these gaskets are reuseable, several times at least, it's hard to determine how many times it's been reused. Then again, there are the guys who could buy an Ebay uppipe that couldn't be sealed unless it was welded in place. There are also guys who install their own parts who don't know the purpose of or what a torque wrench even looks like. :) We hear from them here a lot. I sent three new thermostats to the same guy because he couldn't get the air out of his system and his car kept overheating. All three of the Stats were tested and prooved to be operating as designed.
Almost anything we (Crucial) offer for sale is guaranteed for life. I'd LOVE to extend the same waranty to gaskets, but there are just too many uncertainties involved. The only representation we can really make for these gaskets is they are the product of so much development work, it's not funny. The quality of the workmanship and the material is excellent and the sealing ability of the parts is unparalleled. I think if you install these gaskets, you'll at least know any leaks are the result of some problem OTHER than the gasket. In other words, you can use them with a higher level of confidence than you could a different product. You can use them with less than perfect flanges without leaks and that's prety hard to beat. I don't know anyone else who can say the same thing.
I suppose there could be cases where gaskets could be replaced free of charge, but just I can't see the Crucial Racing Systems gaskets blowing out when installed correctly on quality parts. It's just not going to happen with a good instalation. I saw a composite gasket blow in less than two minutes once and it was installed correctly by a professional mechanic. Of course the uppipe flange left a lot to be desired. (It looked more like it came out of a Pringles can than a machine shop.)
As always, you can depend on Crucial Racing to provide the best in customer support and service. We'll take each case as it comes.
Unabomber 09-08-2004, 08:35 PM Thanks for the wonderful response. The reason I asked about a warranty is I was a victim of composite gasket failure myself, so I am very hesitant to try out new gaskets. In the end, I got my money back from the Vendor, so it wasn't too bad of a deal.
Can you tell me if these are 100% solid or are they layered like the OEM Subaru gaskets? Also, what are your thoughts on the subject of possible bimetallic corrosion? Right now, I don't have any leaks, but may swap my gaskets out with these just to be one bazillion percent sure.
And in case no one mentions it..........thanks for the innovation! :) The more products I see from Crucial, the more I like you folks! My new thermostat should be here any day. :)
5spdfrk 09-08-2004, 08:36 PM These are very nice gaskets. I just put two on when I installed their UP this past weekend.
03WRX83 09-08-2004, 08:55 PM id like to order just the uppipe gaskets please
MisterX 09-08-2004, 10:32 PM I'm not worried anout bimetallic corrosion because the mated metals are not significantly dissimilar, and the gaskets are used in a dry environment. Most uppipes are SS afterall.
Please consider copper head gaskets that see huge differences in expansion and contraction between mated surfaces coupled with the interface with coolant. Copper is still usually the preferred material in the most extreme applications.
Oh yes, they are a single layer though there are subtle differences depending on the application. But I'm not talking about that. :) The embossment at the center of the gasket is the key to the sealing power.
Unabomber 09-08-2004, 11:15 PM Thanks for the further explanation. Once I get some money scrapped together, I might just get a set of these for the heck of it.
<off topic>BTW, I learned in a different thread that you are in Richmond. Wanna come to the next Scooby meet in VA Beach? If so, I'll drop you a PM. We are going to the new go kart track here and I could use a fellow wagon owner's support to beat back the sedan losers. :) </off topic>
hotrod 09-09-2004, 10:59 AM Cool Gaskets!!
These should solve everyones sealing problems. I wish they were available the last time I had to buy gaskets -- I think I paid more for the OEM gaskets from the dealer then this set is going for.
Over the years I've had very good luck with this style of embossed metal gaskets. If handled carefully they can be reused several times, and I've never had a burnout or failure with this style. The Copper construction should give very good confomability for minor dings in the sealing surfaces too.
Thumbs up to Crucial for bringing these out.
Larry

Do you take Paypal? And if so, what's the email address?
There's a WRX wagon in town here with some really cool looking 'Boxer4Racing' decals in the back glass. How much for a pair of those? I need more bling :)
