Hope this is not the final production. I personally loved the GC body. Ok, so I got the 02 one, and I've got no complain. The 04-05 one, not my favorite, but thought they could do better on the design. Again everyone has their own taste. However, I just hope this Alpha-saabaru is not going to be the real production.

Sorry if this is a repost.
HB_Dad 09-09-2004, 10:16 PM I'm hoping this IS what's in store, EXCEPT I hope that they make it more of a hatchback coupe ala the Nissan Z (the 300Z from the 90's for example). Photochoppers?
I'm not much of a sedan type I guess...

Sorry if this is a repost. This isn't a re-post, although most have seen the images on the last page of that Japanese magazine and your link. To read the English text of the interview with the designer of that WRX which originally accompanied your "check this" link, see http://www.subaru-msm.com/global/feature/issues/3.html.
The WRX images on the first two (SCOOP!!) pages of that Japanese magazine are subtlely different, though, from any I've seen here before. The bumper line below the triangle is hardly interrupted at all by the triangle in the "SCOOP!!" images. That'd help it meet Canadian bumper standards. :)
http://jon.in.ct.home.att.net/2033WR2007RJ02.jpg
But the triangle in the grill above seems skewed (while the rest of ths car's facia is looking past your left shoulder, the triangle's "eye" is looking directly at you}.
Thanks.

.
Personal preferences aside, I think this design at least looks "tighter" (no, not tite) than the current one. It's tight in the way a Volkswagon or Audi looks tight.
mcu81 09-09-2004, 11:55 PM looks pretty good but look at the headlight, its gotta be chopped, but it is a good looking design smooth out the headlights, TWO DOOR COUPE........and offer a diesel :)

yep, that was my first impression. The headlight doesn't fit the hole image. The grill looks like the good old alpha romeo. I guess if the headlight get some one redesigned it can win more hearts.

After looking at it for the third time, I think it's starting to grow on me.

Same here. Looks pretty good IMHO. The front looks a little G35coupe-ish to me, which isn't a bad thing.
SUBE555 09-18-2004, 04:22 PM First time I've seen a full WTLW post in some time.
samagon 09-18-2004, 04:42 PM I didn't like it at all the first thread I saw it in, but it is growing on me, maybe a few more threads and I will really like it, who knows?
hehe
to anyone that thinks this is not a photoshop. you are dead wrong, take a good look.
it is a regular wrx with the front end erased and someone with a crayon did a really bad job making some headlights that don't sit into the fenders right (you can see a hint of the flare, and the headlights just go right into them) the rear end just had someone paint half the rear fender red.
oh, and that crease on the hood. on the drivers side it goes to the steering wheel midpoint (about 1/4 of the way across the hood) on the other side that crease looks like it just kind of goes off the hood somewhere around the passengers wheel well.
whoever did this thing needs a quick lesson in drawing perspectives with crayola 101.
I'm not saying I could do better, just that if someone is FHI got paid money to draw that, wow, subaru is in worse shape than we thought.

Full article and better pics, as it appears many have not seen it previously...
Gator GT 09-19-2004, 12:06 AM The grill looks like the good old alpha romeo.
Can anyone say B9 Scrambler concept? Look at the head on shot. And why it looks like Alfa Romeo? FHI's new design chief is a former Alfa designer.
I still don't like it, no matter where it is...on a roadster or the Impreza.
Blech.
GGT
edit: its actually kind of pathetic that Subaru is allowing this design to be transplanted from Italy to Japan. It is very un-Subaru. Have we seen any tail shots....not as many as the nose shots....trying to emphasize their new look...or trying to get consumer feelings/comments/feedback?
still blech.
Distinctive 09-19-2004, 12:28 AM pretty neat....
The double headlight thing is freaking ugly...
I think the Subaru Impreza designers are on drugs...they should hand the Impreza over to the Legacy design team.
yeah double headlights, makes us dizzy. Hey! maybe that's what they are trying to do, if a Evo is in front, Evo driver checked their mirror, give them double vision, then impreza takes this chance and pass him. Or confuse the front driver, "eh? Alfa Romeo? haha" Then they didn't think it's a threat and slowed down, and the subaru driver can then take this chance to pass! haha..
coolbluelb 09-19-2004, 10:02 PM For those complaining about the double headlights, stop looking at the magazine chop and look at the actual Subaru link. For those complaining about the new "proposed" look, I recommend you stop now as it will grow on you .
For the record, I dislike the front on both the B9 Scrambler, and the B11s, but I do like the interpretation done on this car. Were the MY07 STi to come to the States looking like this, I would consider it a must buy!
**edit**
PS- How does one convert a Macromedia Flash picture to a basic JPEG?
The linked pictures look better but still ugly due to that thing below the headlights...
Get rid of that black whateveritis below the headlights and make them integrated. As it is now, they are not integrated and look really stupid and out of place.
Sorry but for some cars, they never grow on me. That bugeyed look still looks as ugly as the first day I saw it.
SuBart 09-20-2004, 07:45 PM Honestly I thought the bugeyed rex's looked far worse at first but then they gre on me, I think the same might be happening with this.
Gator GT 09-20-2004, 11:40 PM PS- How does one convert a Macromedia Flash picture to a basic JPEG?
Try right clicking on it. Check out the options.
If that yields nothing, hit the "PrtScn SysRq" button above your arrows and open photoshop or a similar program. Open a new file and go to edit, and paste. Flatten image if need be and Save as JPEG.
That usually does it for me.
As for the "growing on ya" comments about the looks, IF it does grow on me, I'll be shocked.

coolbluelb 09-21-2004, 02:25 AM http://www.powow.com/coolbluelb/CG%20WRX.jpg
We regularly see the drawing of this car, but I think the CG image is much sharper. Compare the concept to the present car.

Beaverboy 09-21-2004, 09:32 AM They aren't even double-headlights. They're headlights over driving lights.
They ought to just mount the headlights to the roof so we can get back at all the SUVs. That would get rid of the "double-headlight" look that's obviously none-too-popular, and be functional for the street and racing.

For some reason the current car looks frumpy and disproportioned at the front when viewed at a height less than or equal to the height of the sideview mirrors.
It looks okay at higher heights - I'm tempted to think the designer only looked at the full-scale model close-up, and never really stood far away to see how it looked.
OTOH I really like the fender blisters. I hope they keep them, but it looks like they're going more for a flare look (probably because the blisters wouldn't work with the new front end).
coolbluelb 09-21-2004, 02:24 PM Looks like my link died... stupid free web-hosting...
ejicon 09-21-2004, 04:09 PM looks a little like the Infinity G35 from that side angle shot... Nice!

rallyblues 09-24-2004, 02:45 AM SO.... is SUBARU going FMIC now???!!!
what happened to the hood scoop?
the scoop in sti is butt ugly but the new legacy has a nice subtle one...
Beaverboy 09-24-2004, 09:48 AM You're looking at a conceptual drawing of a WRC car.. which uses an FMIC now.
WRXPRESS 09-24-2004, 04:02 PM It looks like a carp....(the fish). Just not good at all..
Beeker 09-24-2004, 04:06 PM the STI could lo9ok a lot better than that and that evo sorry to say looks hella ghey
WRXPRESS 09-24-2004, 04:22 PM The evo looks like that Izuzu sport ute that was out around 4 years ago..

I had been wanting someone to un-rally-fy this car to see how it would look in the real world. Verdict... :disco:  :disco:

exactly....that's it
pezman04wrx 10-04-2004, 04:59 PM That photchop for a coupe is sweet ... Too bad I need four doors ... Although some suicide doors like on the Rx-8 would be kinda sweet ... Hmmmmm ....
Bundyboyz 10-04-2004, 05:15 PM Looks kinda like that (Bugatti Veryon) going back to the triangle like grill and what not.
In addition if I understand right from what I heard on Speed TV last night while watching FIA World Rally in Italy...
New Rally cars (2006 or 2007) are going to be N/A meaning no turbo... can someone confirm this, I'm going to dig deeper.
If I'm wrong about please... don't flame Like I said I'm looking for confirmation.

hey, that looks like a celica... ;)
bob655 10-04-2004, 08:56 PM hey, that looks like a celica... ;)
Not my fault...I didn't change the front end ;)
BTW I like how celicas look, so I wouldn't be upset at all if it really does end up looking like a celica.
4830DeuceWRX 10-04-2004, 09:14 PM Car looks sick...that grille is way too much...imo

I traded my two hatchback coupes in on my new Legacy Sedan. Coupes are great until you need to use your backseat with any frequency. That is one of the Subaru advantages, a useful backseat.
Think of the other cars in the STi performance level, how many have a usable backseat? How many can carry 4 adults or even pick up two at the airport and still kill a BMW at the lights.
