View Full Version : Went to the Track Last Night
TRICMAN2004 09-11-2004, 02:51 PM Well I made my first trip to the track with my new setup..
Mods are :
Helix Uppipe / Downpipe
APS Cold Air Intake
APS DR500 FMIC
STI Injectors
Borla Header
Apexi Catback
VF22
Denso Iridium plugs
HKS SSQV BOV
Road Tuned with Ecutek by Rallispec in NJ made 285 whp at 19.5 psi
60' times were horrible 2.05 ( on stock tires with 16 psi in the front and 23 in the rear) launched around 5500 and slipped the clutch
Best time of the night was 13.70 at 101.8
How can I improve my 60' times, I know the car can hit a high 12 low 13. I was shifting hard.. Any suggestions????????
pestysti 09-11-2004, 02:58 PM just a thought but air up those tires this will let them spin and let you leave harder
worked in my sti 2.07 60 with a bad bog
1.72 with just enought tire spin like one revolution then its off like a rocket..

First off, you need to leave on the third yellow light. You want to rev the car up to around 4000rpm and slip the clutch out fast enough that you dont pop it but not too slow where the clutch burns like crazy, you want to get a little wheelspin.
Keep your tires inflated to full capacity (usually 44psi) the reason why is that a radial tires sidewall doesnt flex, so the only thing you arre doing is screwing up the contact patch on the ground. Full pressure gives you less drag and puts the tire in its best "rolling mode" no resistance.
sprx19 09-11-2004, 03:32 PM I rev to 5500 rpm, let the clutch out really fast, but don't "drop" it. Shifting really hard is hard on the tranny, just be careful. By the way, how do you know that it is making 285 whp if you got a road tune? Also, reaction time has nothing to do with e.t. as you probably know. You can leave on the yellow light, green light, or if you see a purple light. Doesn't matter. ;)

True but if you wanna beet the other guy you need a good one ;)
TRICMAN2004 09-11-2004, 11:12 PM What do you guys think I should run the tire pressure at?
fastsubie 09-12-2004, 12:20 AM I ran 40lbs all around when I had my 02 rex. Cut 1.7x's 60's all day..

happasaiyan 09-12-2004, 12:16 PM im surprised you didnt break an axle. when i ran 20psi in the rear (by accident) i broke mine.
salisburyv 09-12-2004, 05:55 PM i run 32 psi in my tires and I get consistent 1.6x 60'....I rev between 5500-5800rpm and feather the clutch quick, slight wind...12.84@113 at Lebanon Valley( with c16) 13.0@ 107 at N.E. dragway on pump.....no e.m yet....but its comin!!!
V6TurboTA 09-12-2004, 05:56 PM im surprised you didnt break an axle. when i ran 20psi in the rear (by accident) i broke mine.
Can you tell me what happened, how obvious was it. Was it still driveable?
TIA,

It is real obvious...you feel a boom and depending on what and were it broke the half shaft will smack the rear tie rods. I broke one axle and then the other hub shattered.
Your getting towed home when it happens...
On the lighter side I talked to one of the guys at DriveShaftShop and he told me I could send in my axles now and they would destress the CV's and put in there new half shafts, greased with nice CV boots for $599.
V6TurboTA 09-12-2004, 06:11 PM doH!
thanks for the info.

No engine management, and you trapped 113 on C16?
What else do you have done?

Yeah I'm kinda trying to figure that one out? 12.84@113 is good but I am doing 12.51@108 so I am trying to figure the difference out? My best trap speed was a 109 when my 5th was working so I may have been able to pull a 110 on Sat I was lucky but I also am doing it with no EM ;)
salisburyv 09-13-2004, 05:35 PM www.cardomain.com/id/salisburyv....check it out....its all there...nothin to hide...At Lebanon Valley I took my system out...sub and amp rack...and only had 5 gallons of c-16....the best run was my last...as i had my low fuel light on...so I had the car as lite as it could be....and I shift around 6150-6300...my lite is set to 6100...and I was racin a ss/camaro that had beat me earlier...and a good r/t helped. Peace

Link didn't work, I was just wondering how you went 12.84@113. That MPH should have been a much lower ET is all?
serendipity 09-13-2004, 09:10 PM Yeah, not doubting, but traps are crazy for no engine management. I was more surprised by the gain in putting C16 in with no EM. The stock ECU won't advance timing any more than it does for 93 octane, so there shouldn't really have been any increase in performance on race gas.
I run 12.5 at 110mph - even on a borked run, my highest trap is about 112 or a hair under. With 113mph, you should be running low low 12s. I notice in the picture that it's a 12.8 at 103, not 113. Was it just a typo?

OHHHH, so thats how that drag racing thing works.
salisburyv 09-13-2004, 10:52 PM sorry it was 103 my bad....must have been too excited to finally hit a 12 sec pass...and the c16 did make a difference, I understand what your sayin but the only 12 sec pass so far was with c16, the cars ecu is all over the place sometimes, pullin timing puttin it back...Its confusing, and I really dont know enough about the technical aspects of it to figure it out... I leave it up to my shop...I do what they tell me to do, its really trial and error, just when I think I got it figured out, it throws me a curve, blew another 02 sensor today...havent used any thing different since I replaced it last time and today I start up cel comes on and I got the code pulled and it was p0139 front 02, go figure?

Could be bad news - leaded race gas kills O2 sensors. The front O2 helps the car maintain the right fuel trims, and it's pretty important. I'd get it looked at (probably needs to be replaced).
InfamousDX 09-14-2004, 12:49 PM At e-town I always ran 42f/40r tire pressure and that always worked. That's a bad 60 foot but I've gotten the exact same on on stock turbo and gone 13.5 @ 101 at E-town so it might be your shifting or something cuz that time is plain junk. What were you shifting at?
TRICMAN2004 09-14-2004, 01:09 PM I was shifting at 7000, I think the tire pressure is what killed my time and speed. If it doesn't rain, I am going to go this Friday up to Island Dragway. I will mess around with the tire pressure and see what happens.
dinofx 09-14-2004, 02:29 PM Can you tell me what happened, how obvious was it. Was it still driveable?
Yes, I too was wondering if having a long rod of metal flopping around until it gets jammed on some part of the car and locks up either the wheel of the differential would have any affect on driving it.
WrxRacer305whp 09-14-2004, 02:35 PM i would think with that setup you have you should at least be getting high 12s if not closer to mid 12s..
InfamousDX 09-14-2004, 04:13 PM Well shoot for mid 12's then at island... anything less and I'd be pretty disappointed with that setup.
