I have to leave here at 4pm and would rather not have the 4 hr. commute to Sacramento (normally 2.25 hours under normal driving conditions). Do you know if taking the route up I-205 and I-5 and up 99 is faster? Any other recommendations, or should I just take the normal 680 to 80 route?

205 is the one through tracy right? That one is a dead stop on weekdays, especially fridays. I-5 up by Elk Grove slows way down, so does 99. It wont be any faster I dont think.

yeah taking 580 to 205 to 5 sucks!! it will be bumper to bumper from the 680/580 interchange all the way through the altamont pass and through tracy. although 680 to 80 sucks as well.

look at it this way. you are screwed no matter what way you go

I suggest driving a SRT4, other cars will cower and move out of your way.

A hyabusa might work well.

After 4pm, on a weekday, it'll take you at least one Solar Year to get from San Jose to Tracy (okay, more like 2-2.5 hours), then it'll take you another couple of hours from Tracy to Sac. Sorry, but you're screwed. :(

Edit: If you leave SJ after 6 or 7, you should be able to get to Sac in two hours.

I happened to read this AFTER making the commute on Friday. It took me an ETERNITY to get from Pleasanton to Stockton. I tried to use 99, but it was packed, so I hopped on I-5 and it was a smooth commute from there on out. It took me 3 hours to get home, which saved me 30 minutes from what it takes using the 80 route at that time.
