Gotta warn everybody that it isn't much but here's a couple wav files of my 2004 Outback Sport. Stock muffler and all. Files are not small, at over 400 to under 600 KB.

A lot of static hiss in these, and the startup one seems to include the undulating whir of a notebook computer fan (built-in mic used); so maybe you could hear the difference between the two, to be able to tell what's car and what's fan noise. If you have volume controls on your speakers it'll help I'm sure. I checked this on the notebook with volume near full and it's not real good so desktop computer speakers should help.

The rev-up is probably about to 5000 RPM, I didn't watch it though. Oh, and notebook was put at the cars side, toward back, under a carport. That might help to know why it sounds the way it does.
