Does anyone else get a creaking sound when they brake? I've been to the dealer TWICE and it's still creaking!! They obviously have no idea what it is!!

It sounds something like this as I come to a stop:

cree..cree....creee......creee...creeeee. stop.

It's been months now and I think I'm gonna go nuts!!!

Sacrificing money to the subaru gods does nothing to hellp!!!!

Did you do any mods to the car that may have contributed to the noise? Where is the sound coming from?

YES!!! My 1995 Legacy recently started doing this. My mom's 2002 Legacy does this, and since my dad got new brake pads on his Outback sedan, his does it too! They all make a similar creaking sound right before you come to a complete stop.

My dealership says it is normal too.
I find it odd that 3 different Subarus (and 2 model generations) recently started making the same noises. Perhaps Subaru has a new supplier for their OEM brake pads, and the new pads are making these noises.

Are you still using the original or OEM brake pads? I hear several noises from our brakes. The loudest are the squeals, but since we're using non-OEM pads, it's understandable. The creeks we get are supposedly (so says the Subaru dealership) because our front pads are cracked. They're usable, but noisy. The last sound we get are pops. The brake pads actually "pop" (the movement is visible), usually when accelerating after someone brakes with the wheels turned.

BJAmerican: Thank god.. I thought I was the only one... I've had the brakes taken apart and checked twice by the dealer and the tire checked and they can't find anything wrong at all....

Calvin: No mods besides grounding wires...the creaking seems to come from either the suspension or the brakes on the right front and really only happens when I brake, not when I turn hard right...

Avatar: Yes I'm using the original brakes.

...on the front....it may be the nut holding the transverse link bushing causing the 'creak' sound....see:
