View Full Version : News: Ford's 2005 Motorsport Plan!
Rallycarperson 09-22-2004, 02:50 PM "There is a speculation in Europe that the Ford Motor Company will rebrand its woeful Jaguar Racing Formula One team as the "Ford Grand Prix," and has signed a budget substantially increased by the savings from the withdrawal from the World Rally Championship. If Ford Grand Prix is created, the word is that, M Sport which is the U.K. organization that builds and operates the Ford WRC rally cars, will likely continue without official works backing so Ford can keep a toe in the WRC water."
As quoted from Autoweek...
Interesting, so they quit the WRC for a bigger budget in F1.

artkevin 09-22-2004, 04:14 PM Autosport.com said today that Redbull is in major considerations for buying Jugaur. This situatuion makes very little since to me becuase they are still working on 2 their 2005 car but the week before the annoucment, also in Autosport, David Pitchforth (Head of Jaguar F1) said that other teams would be invious of their situtation. Maybe by situtation he meant a "long vacation".
Patrick Olsen 09-22-2004, 04:16 PM Quoted from Autoweek when? When the press release about Jaguar leaving F1 came out, the Ford spokesperson specifically said that they had no intention of remaining in F1 under any Ford brand name.
Quoting from http://www.motoring.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=756&fArticleId=2229183:
The announcement comes just days after Jaguar Racing's MD David Pitchforth said he was confident his team would have the budget to be a competitive outfit next season and rumours at the Italian GP that Ford was planning a cash injection for 2005.
...
"We are withdrawing from F1 at the end of the season," Ford vice-president Richard Parry-Jones told Reuters.
Parry-Jones, in charge of Ford's F1 programme, said the American car giant could no longer make a compelling business case for any of its brands to compete in F1 and had taken the "difficult decision" to quit.
Jaguar and Ford are gone, no question about it.

8Complex 09-22-2004, 04:21 PM According to Ford's racing teams site, F1 is gone and nothing is said about WRC.
F1 gone, Jaguar and Ford withdraw (http://www.fordracing.com/news/?article=26393)
Ford Racing's WRC section of site (http://www.fordracing.com/worldrally/)
I also looked up the whois data on fordracing.com and it is owned by the Ford Motor Company.

akmotorsports 09-23-2004, 12:37 AM ALMS, ELMS, LeMans... coincidence that they introduced the GT this year?
Imagine Corvette, Ferrari, Ford in the same class. Glory days all over again. It's my theory and I'm sticking to it. I'm going to check into the ACO's GTS and GT rules sometime before Friday and see how it fits in.

Why not? Toyota did it, and look at how much more success they've had in F1 than in rallying ;) ;)

Ford has repeatedly stated that they will not be racing the GT, and if you'd like to race one then you need to get in line with all the other retail buyers because there will be no privateer support programs either.
akmotorsports 09-24-2004, 12:30 AM Sure, they may be saying this and saying that... but, LOOK at it!
