Anyone using an oil filter relocation kit? Do they even make them for Subarus? A buddy has one in his silvia and it makes changing it much easier. TIA.

I bought an oil cooler kit from subydude and it came with the oil relocation kit. I never used it. It's still new. There are two pieces, the sandwich adapter and the oil filter part. I'm thinking $50 plus shipping. PM me if interested.

Since changing the oil filter in the Imprezas is already so easy, I doubt there's a big market for a relocation kit, especially with the small (but real) chance of engine damage if a hose/fitting leaks.

I know what you mean, there's a cover (apparently not quite as big as yours) on mine, too. On mine, I've been able to change the filter w/o taking off the cover, but I've also heard of people cutting a flap into their plastic undertray so they can get at the filter really easily. I would feel much safer about a flap in the undertray vs. a relocation kit that introduces extra oil fittings/hoses. Think out of the box!

Yea, theres no easy way to get to the oil filter on my car except to remove the cover each time. About the relocation kit, many people have been using them for some time now and i havent read about any problems anywhere regarding safety, leaks, etc., so i figured i would simply look into it. Combine this kit with the fumoto valve and changing the oil could actually be fun!!

I'm sort of looking into getting one but because i'm thinking of installing an oil cooler someday.

I've got a GDA (bugeye) so the undertray doesn't block the oil filter, but i've taken it off and replaced it with a 10lbs aluminum skidplate which i have to remove everytime i need to change my oil... :D [So i don't want to hear any whining... :lol:]

Can you replace the plastic skid plate instead from STI to the bugeye?

The reason I would want a oil filter relo kit would be because of the heat! The header runs RIGHT NEXT to the oil filter and when I change the oil after a run to warm it up the filter is EXTREMELY warm.

On a turbo you might have a hard time routing the oil lines from the stock filter location to wherever you want the filter to go. The exhaust manifolds kind of get in the way.

Maybe you could just cut a hole in the plastic panel so that you can remove the filter without removing the panel? EJ engines have been around since 1989, and the plastic panel is a relatively recent addition, so your engine would probably survive.
