View Full Version : Turbo Timer on N/A car?

Okay, so my buddies and I got into a debate about this over the weekend. Could you run a turbo timer on a n/a 2.5rs? the main function is to cool down the turbo and the engine before you turn the car off and in no way is it hooked to anything with the turbo. A n/a car has a vehicle speed, rpm signal and parking brake wire and those are your three main connections. Would it work and would it be possible. I need to prove them wrong. Thanks

sure you could hook it up-------------

Kinda like putting a doughnut into a piggy bank though....

(useless and difficult)

 that paints a great picture!

the wiring harness may be the same or very close, so it might not be too tough. a lot the turbo timers today have additional features so it might not be a horrible idea, but i can think of a million better ways to spend $100.

Yes...can be done.

Pointless.

They are unnecessary on a turbo car w/water-cooled bearings, and even more unnecessary on a N/A car.

will the connector to the ignition on the hks turbo timer for the wrx work with the ignition connector on a 2.5?

Yeah they are water cooled bearings, but you still need oil pressure to keep from tearing the bearing up, and the WRX service manual does state that it is recommended to keep the car running for about 30 secs to 1 min @ idle after driving.

And for the turbo timer on a NA car, you drive hard then stop and turn the car off right away, what happens? This happens, the engine continues to heat up even after you turn it off, and if you were damn close to the temp when the fans come on it just gets that much hotter afterwards. It is not needed on a NA car is the bottom line, but it wont hurt anything if you do have one.

Please reference the exact page/section where it says that. Not in the US service or owners manuals anywhere that I've seen.
In this thread you'll find the Subaru statement negating the need for a cooldown procedure-

Subaru's position is that the convection flow of coolant is sufficient to remove heat from the turbo after shutdown, you are more than welcome to take the issue up with SOA. ;)

I still put 30 sec on after I boosted the car hard when I am in a hurry. Just for the peace state of the mind :) The TT also works great in winter time :)

ANd for this thread,
+1 for yes it can be install in a N/A car

I have the blitz install in my NA.

Comes in handy when warming up the car and spirited driving, giving the car enough time to cool down before the fan cut off.
