View Full Version : Turbo'ing a MY00 2.5RS
Keiho 06-20-2001, 06:24 PM What is needed to run 5-7psi reliably?
Kit will be a Technik Stage 2.
Car is a MY00 automatic.
I will need what?
Voltage clamp?
Fuel pressure regulator?
Would those two be sufficient to have it run reliably?
stimpy 06-20-2001, 06:55 PM Personally, I would recommend a voltage clamp of some sort (J&S, split-sec, zener, etc), RRFPR, and high-flow fuel pump. Then make sure you get the gauges to watch.

alastair 06-20-2001, 09:12 PM there is a difference between 5lbs and 7lbs. i am running around 6lbs right now with just what you have mentioned (along with a larger fuel pump etc)
so far i have had no problems. the car is the same as your's and the kit is Rallispec's.
Joe Hogan 06-20-2001, 10:09 PM Any problems running 6 psi w/4EAT?
I've had a few issues with the 4EAT running 10 psi. Mostly with the tranny holding the power and shifts. The stock tranny "flared" badly when shifting between 2-3rd. Now that Level 10 has rebuilt the tranny. mod the TC and valve body .... and significantly increased the line pressure slipping no longer appears to be the issue. Now we are working on shift quality ....
The shifts are now brutely hard [spinning all fours ....hard]. Pat at Level 10 has been working diligently with me to correct this problem. They will fix this problem it is just taking some time.
It appears there is some limit that the stock tranny will operate at without modification ... it is below 10 psi :)
NickSTi 06-20-2001, 10:11 PM Hey I had a 2000 auto RS-T too! ran 7.4psi
you should be fine with a rrfpr and a fuel pump. I autoxed on mine with two back to back runs at 7lbs and the egts were always nice and low. as for the voltage clamp thing i read about it but i didnt have one for my auto and i didnt have the 3psi problem that i did when i turbod my manual.
s-one 06-21-2001, 09:20 AM Hey guys I have a MY00 RS as well , can someone also send me info on Turbo'ing my car!
thanks :)
blaster88 06-21-2001, 09:25 AM Shoe -

slim speedy 06-21-2001, 03:00 PM Can I get a ride too blaster???
Keiho 06-21-2001, 04:21 PM So 7psi is alright on an auto then? Good good. :)

Andrew 06-21-2001, 06:05 PM get a J&S. you wont regret it. espeically once you get addicted to boost and want more. i only run 5-6psi right now and the J&S retards every now and then. i wouldnt want to be without if. espeically if you have the radio up and loud exhaust and wont be able to hear the car ping.
but if you know what you are doing you can just put in an ITC

That's a problem? :D Joe, I love the Level 10 valve body. In all of my future autotrannied cars, I will definitely get a valve body job done just for the feel of it and the way it preserves your clutch packs and eliminates heat build up. It may not be a Level 10 valve body but a valve body nonetheless. I love it!
As far as how much psi you can run safely, I would say 5psi. I haven't ran over 5psi when I owned my kit and everything was fine. It was the Nitrous and only with a bottle warmer did it destroy the tranny. I guess you can say 7psi would be fine but no more unless you take care of your long shifts with a shift kit/hydrosystem.
Keiho 06-21-2001, 10:09 PM On another note, I was talking with the mechanic at Technik, and he said that even with a fuel pressure regulator the car runs lean up top.
Has any of you guys in the States taken a MY00, turbo'd it, got it to run fine with the fpr, and done some tests with an A/F gauge and other tuning equipment?
This is basically the only thing holding me back from turbo'ing my car again.
LVSUBARU 06-21-2001, 10:20 PM what's a voltage clamp???
ImprezaRS dot com 06-22-2001, 03:52 AM Keiho,
I ran my MY2000 with a small legacy turbo compressor and Bell 20007 RRFPR, and had EGT's which stayed under 1450 degrees at 6,000 rpm in 5th gear for periods of 4-5 minutes at a time.
That doesn't sound lean to me...

RyanC 06-22-2001, 09:28 AM Larry where can you find a stretch of road to stay at 6k rpm in 5th for 4-5 minutes at a time?
ImprezaRS dot com 06-22-2001, 11:12 AM Have you ever heard of South Park?
RyanC 06-22-2001, 11:21 AM What, did you kill Kenny on a top speed run? Or did you pull a 'Screw you guys, I'm going home' after your motorcycle racing post? ;) Seriously though, I'd like to find a road like that outside of the midwest, the best I can find is a brief stretch for a top speed run.
ImprezaRS dot com 06-22-2001, 12:42 PM South Park is a REAL place in Colorado headed west on hwy 24 from Colorado Springs after you go over Hoosier Pass on the way to Fairplay
Long flat stretch of land for miles...
