Well, I knew it was inevitable. I had my first run in with the local police tonight with my WRX. But it was really cool! I was going to our riverside park to inline skate for a while. About a minute after I parked, 2 officers on bicycles pulled up. I couldn't think of anything wrong I had done lately. They then stated that it was a mandatory cool car check out stop. They had not had a chance to check one out yet and were dying to give it a look over. One insisted that I pop the hood. No probs. I showed them some pics from a SCCA meet I had gone to a couple Sundays before. He asked me how quick it was. I jokingly told them I did not want to incriminate myself. I then told them what a great car it is in rain or sun. THe one officer I told to take a seat in it. he said he couldn't because he would end up with his wife mad because he would have to trade their Grand Am in on one.
When I left the park about an hour later, they both gave me a thumbs up and wave as I went by them. I thought it was funny enough earlier in the day when my elderly(70+ish) stopped and told me how much she loved the blue color. I didn't have the guts to tell her that a ride in it would probably give her a coronary. :D

Cool story man. Seems like everybody is looking to check out "that Subaru car with the turbo..."

It is funny to hear remarks about the WRX from some people. I was getting gas the other day, and at the pump next to me was a Ford F-250, ext. cab, 4x4, dualies, etc, etc. This truck was huge! The guy gets out and says "Is that one of them new Subarus, WRS, SRX, whatever", I said "It sure is." He proceeded to check the car out and told me "I just might get myself one of them." Amazing.

I had my share of onlookers as well. I stopped by my local gas station. When I was filling my tank, a guy from the passenger seat from another car got out and approached my WRX with eyes wide open. He asked if it is, you know, one of those WRXs. As I was descibing how I felt about the car (its quick) another guy, who was filling his tank, was walking around mine with a smile on his face. Okay, so my 17' wheels are what make the car but really....I have seen Porches around but no one approaches them. What's up with that?

Just the other day, an older guy came out of the pub across the street from where my wagon was parked and proceeded to talk/look over my car. As he was talking, I noticed a sweet 911 turbo in front of the pub he came out of, and I asked if that was his, he said yep. He was thinking of getting the wagon for he and his wife to tool around in (w/their dogs). And he couldn't believe that I actually fit in the car. He was fairly impressed w/it overall.
I've also had others come up to me and say, "Is that that Subaru w/the Porshce engine in it?" :D

My neighbor saw me waxing it, came over, looked at it and said, "Is that the new Subaru that goes like hell?"
After telling him it was he asked a bit about how it drove. I started telling him and then he told me to stop - that he didn't want to hear anymore as he was getting too sold on it.

I was rinsing my WRX off in one of those self-serve wash stalls when I caught a glimpse of an older guy scoping my car out from behind. He finally approached and the first thing he said was: 'So have you had a chance to autocross it yet?' :) He ended up chatting for a few minutes about tire choices and was obviously quite impressed with the car.

Best part is I pulled out of the stall and noticed him washing his yellow Boxster S in the next stall over...

It was a suprise to me. The town I live in, let alone the whole area, is very GM-biased. The one officer admitted to being a subscriber to a couple of car magazines though. They both were loving the pics I had from the autocross. Both of their eyes bugged when they got to the picture of the Z06 Corvette that was there. It was neat for the simple fact that it wasn't the usual "What kind of car is that?" Funny thing is, its younger boys that know what it is most the time. Must be that Gran Turismo game. I have overheard a couple of them stating what it was. Or its the car from the commercial that turns into the race car. The officers mentioned that too. I told them that was my favorite one.:D

Here is "Jeepland" lots of folks stare at my car but practically nobody knows what it is. Only one person so far. The day I brought it home my neighbor comes over and smiles and says you got a WRX, cool. He's a jet pilot. Someone at work has a MY02 RS. I parked beside him. When I went to leave there was a new Legacy sedan and a 95ish Legacy wagon all parked beside us. A Subie 4-some. By the way, the WRX is used in Australia and the UK by the police as a chase car.;)

I have gotten tons of people ask me about my car. Most of them good and friendly talks much like all of yours. Then i got a negative one. Some little 16 year old with a Focus comes up to me and says "What do you have done to it" Now I am standing their with my back to him so I didn't even know he was speaking to me. I turn around and look at this little dirtbag. I said "absolutely nothing!" He proceeded to tell me how he would "kill me in a race..." and blah blah blah. Did I race him? Nah.................I let him putter on his merry way. Where do these kids come from?

Well, it's inevitable, I've been pulled over twice but I'll share the one good story I had. I was driving on a back road just enjoying the curves when I get a beep from my radar detector. I immediately slow down but it's too late, I see the cop pull out and turn on it's lights. I pull over and the police woman walks up to the car. Right off the bat she starts asking me about the gauges I have mounted on my dash, and I'm thinking to myself that I might just be able to get out of this. She keeps asking me more and more questions, asks about the motor and I explain to her how it's a boxer engine just like the Porsche. Immediately she responds with a "that must be one high performance engine" comment, and I sort of let my pride grow a little and responded "Why yes, it is." The last thing she said was "You might want to do your high-performance runs somewhere else and hands me the ticket. :( Oh well, at least she was nice about it.

Today a cute blonde girl shouted "HEY! I love your car" from her big green exploder the next lane over and she shot me a big beaming smile. :D

I have never owned a car anyone has said anything positive about before. this is just weird.

And everyone says the wrx isn't popular with the ladies.. hehe

I've had people hang out of car windows to gawk at my new Rex. People in parking lots stop and point. Every other time I'm out on the road, I get challenged to race. It's funny. I've ridden in a Ferrari and not gotten this much attention.

Well....people here don't know what the hell it is but they just love it and yes even the ladies!!!

I heard from a friend that works in the same building that i do....This women saw the WRX in the parking lot and she just loved it...she said that she wanted to lay on the hood and wait till the guy that owned it came out!!:p :p :p It's a great car...and as a bonus...women love it!!! I'm a happy camper.

Also had quite a few people stop to talk to me and even this guy in his apt. window. "HEY DUDE...IS THAT THE NEW WRX?"

Oh yeah....i was just cruising along and this guy in a Jetta with his wife and kid wanted to race me! Obviously..i did not...but had a good laugh!!!

I had a guy the other day beep at me at a light, when I look over I see the most beautiful car I've ever seen.......a blaze yellow Diablo SV. He asked about the rex and how it drove, he then proceeded to ask me to "open it up" when the green light came on. I did and he played with me for about 0-60, then all I saw was a yellow streak and he was GONE. I've also had a oral surgeon who frequents my store a lot ask to look at it, and he drives a 911 turbo AND a Z8 and he's on the list for a 360 spider. Must be nice....

I used to drive a 94 red rx7... so i was thinking my wr blue wrx would not get as much gawk factor... i was wrong! walking out of the theatre... i saw four teenage guys drooling over my car. they were lookin at it like it was a ferrari or something! their jaws were hanging down their chests... i was really surprised. too much gran turismo i guess. last night driving through manhatten... i pulled up next to a stretched limo... the window roles down.. and all i hear is "thats a sweet subaru!" i'm pretty surprised to tell the truth... scooby power! i'm a believer.

I was at the local Barnes & Noble reading the current "Rally XS" A guy walked up to me and said is that your WRX out front, I laughed, and said it was, I then asked him how he knew to ask me of everyone in the store? He said look at what your reading, not to many people read that mag in the states. He asked me how I liked the car, and I of course said that I loved it. I asked him if he would like to see the inside of the car, he was there with his girlfriend, and he told her to go do her thing and he would meet up with her in about 20 minutes. After an overview of the car, he said he was going to trade in his integra for the WRX!!!!

It seems here the car isn't quite as unique - I don't get stares everywhere I go, and people don't ask me questions all the time, but still... I have been stared at, and I have had questions asked. Mostly, though, it's just comments I hear behind my back as I'm walking into a store (Hey, that's that turbo car!)

I guess with the number of very nice cars on the road in this area, the WRX isn't quite as unique - still, I wouldn't trade it in for any of the luxury brands. (Well, okay, maybe an S4 Avant... But only if I could get it without the leather seats. ;-)

Oh yea,
One of the officers asked me if I planned on seeing "The Fast And The Furious". I told him I would more than likely go. I try to see the car flicks. He said he was gonna go opening weekend. He also hoped it would be better than "Driven".
As far as getting challenged, it doesn't hardly happen. I had to humble a Chevy C3. That was too easy. Had a new Mustang GT fly by on the highway coming back from the autocross. He was revving it once he got infront of me. I motioned for him to go. I kept right on his tail for a ways. I got tired of the risk of a ticket on that road. State boys like it allot on weekends. An A4 just before that engaged in some sirited driving down a secondary road with some small twists. He gave me a wave when he turned off. The only other thing was a Honda or DSM behind me one night. He kept revving his coffee can up but disappearred before we could do anything. I think he just got skeered though. :D :D

I have a somewhat similar story with a cop and my WRX. I was headed home from VT on 684 in NY and stopped at a rest stop to do the deed and get something to drink. Before I parked I noticed a NY State Trooper in a Camaro crusier with his reverse lights on. I parked and got out of the car and started walking away. The trooper had backed all the way up the exit ramp to check my car. He called me over to his car, and I was like, Uh-Oh! He asked about the WRX and how I liked it, where I got it etc etc. I got my WRX on the first allocation so they were very rare at the time to see any on the roads. He said he was thinking about getting one himself.

I guess when your job includes driving a hopped up camaro and pulling over bad guys, the WRX is the perfect car when off duty.

This one time a few months ago, i was flying up the 5 and pulled out to get gas. At the gas station, a cop pulls up, the driver gets out and walks to my car with me still in it. He taps on the window, and i am scared, trying to think of what i just did. He tells me to get out, and then asks me all about the car... He had this serious demeanor, until i started talking about the car, then he was like wow, cool car, i want to get one too.
I was quite scared for a while. that was the first time i had a cop compliment me on my car.
--Adam
p.s. and i have gotten a lot of comments from girls in my building, all saying cute car... Chicks dig it!

while I was fueling up, a woman driving a red explorer pulls up in front of me and looks quizzical, so I figure she's going to ask directions or something. of course she gets my attention and then says "what kind of car is that"

so I tell her and she leans over to her husband/boyfriend/male companion/ sex slave and says "I told you"

just thought that was pretty funny and wanted to share

that's cool about the cops. the only people that take any interest in my car are the ones I work with, that and the kids driving my with preludes and such sticking their heads out of the window while driving past.

I was probably going a little too fast --- but this road was completely empty. I saw another car, and slowed down. It was a police car. They flashed their high beams at me and gave me a big thumbs up.

People ask about the car all the time. Combination of "unique styling" and the ad campaign.

Yeah the cops here look at my car alot and i sens that they respect the car...i always speed a little bit more than i should but i don't drive like a insane maniac (But don't ask my freinds:D :D :D )

Once on the 4 lane highway...me and Mercedes (The litte roadster...can't remember the the name)we were playing around at 120mph...he just glanced at us and never turned around....yeah i know we got lucky:lol:

I'm full of these stories......sorry....but the best one of all....was when when i bought my WRX...walking out the door with the keys and the salesmen said: Hey i forgot to mention one more option that is available for the WRX...."A condom dispenser":D I know that Subaru is very safty oriented but these guys are really looking out for me!!! Sniff sniff...sorry guys i got a tear in my eye!!!:D :D :D :D :D

I just got stopped 20 minutes ago so the cop could check my car out. I just had the windows tinted on Saturday and he said be couldn't see the temp plates in the rear window. I'm glad I left them in now. Anyway, he checked my license and proceeded to tell me about his civic si with nitrous and his intergra with a turbo. He was pretty cool.
I feel like a celebrity driving this car. Kids everywhere stare at it and ask to see the engine. Of course I show it to everyone that asks. I get a kick out of just seeing the reaction people have to it, not to mention driving it. And I've only had it since Wednesday evening :D

I'm so glad I bought this car, it's an amazing peice of equipment

oh yeah, and that's the first time I've ever been pulled over for anything!!

I take a run down to the Solo2 and get quite a few neck twists as I drive by (there was about 4 WRX sedans and 2 wagons) but I get alot of that car looks great in red. So I bail on the Solo 2 cuz I'm taking the Girlfriend to her parnets for her brothers B-Day party... Ok enough filler in this story... I'm on the phone with work and my girlfriend sees the local police walkin around the car so she busts out the door with is there a problem officers, no Maam they reply is it fast, it's quick she says, I finish up the fone call and go out to see what is goin on, they ask again is it fast, I reply it's quick, one cop says to the other it's probably faster then our Impalas i say whats the 0-60 on those they reply 8 sec yes i say it faster then that ah from what i've read in C&D sir 0-60 is about 5.8 One Replies under 6 sec WOW yep I say whats top speed ahh 140 i read in C&D I say. Is that Limited I say Drag limited from what I read in C&D, Have you raced any Stangs yet
No sir, around here, I think they don't know what it is yet. He say some stuff about a trooper 5.0 he bought and its fast etc etc. (It went on and on like he was trying to pull some info out of me about the couple of stangs that got a suprize from a WRX):D I keep my mouth shut... then he says don't buy a Fuzz buster (It's funny when a cop says Fuzz Buster) we look for cars with fuzz busters to pull over, Ok i say, He tells me to watch my speed and to drive safe Alritey I say.... So later we leave and I get Five young'ns in different car give me the Look over and the smiles and thumbs up... Sweet Mother Of Gad I love this car

Wow. I was thinking my car wasn't getting any attention the first month and a half I had it. All of a sudden everyone seems to look. I ran into a friend of mine's brother at the gas station tonight. He is a major musclecar gearhead. Cool, open-minded guy though. He said, "Jerry(his bro) told me about this car!" . He then proceeded to give it the once over. "Pop the hood!". He had never seen a boxer-style engine before. Loved the design. Andy is a tall guy too, about 6'4". I told him to have a seat. He was amazed at the room. He was kinda in a hurry though. I told him I would take him for a spin sometime.
I thought that was pretty cool coming out of a guy that drives a high 11 sec. 1/4 70 Chevelle. I gave his Chevelle a once over. Its a sweet sounding big block, let alone all around car. He gave me the quick lowdown on his ride then.
Had another Mustang guy driving his daily full size Dodge van want to check it out the other day at the store too. He said he wants to line up at a light some time. I told him I try to avoid being red/yellow/green stoplight Speedracer.
All of a sudden it gets noticed. I love that reaction when you tell them its a Subaru. 99.9% people have no idea they make a car like that. I just wish the onluy other one in town was a different color! Soon to be another WRB one no less.
What will tomorrow bring?

Hey all, I am currently in the market for a new car and came here to see what everyone was saying about the new WRX. After looking at some other cars like the Intergra and Eclipse GT, I'm slowly moving away from them and starting to see myself behind the wheel of one of these fascinating machines. By the way you should send some of these stories to Subaru's Advertising agency :) Maybe they'd model an ad off of one of them. I for one, could see almost any of them, especially the ones with the cops in 'em as a car ad. Either that or they should hire you to come work for them because, DAMN you guys are doing a hell of a job selling me on this car.
