View Full Version : Warning! Harness install caused damage to my car's wiring- cost $228 to repair.

The passenger's outside bolt, the one where you have to cut the carpet to get to, the wiring harness to the rear of the car runs very close.

In the process of installing the eye bolt, I must have twisted the backing plate (that was what was explained to me) and either causing a short or disconnecting a terminal.

I had been seeing a check engine light for weeks. The computer said there was a problem with a fuel temp sensor. That was the wire that was shorted, nothing wrong with the sensor.

I'm still not 100% as to what I did to cause it to screw up-- but take this as a warning!

Yeah when I put mine in, I pulled up the side edge of the carpet and behind the white contoured cover and saw them, I altered their location to help prevent any problems.

Sorry to hear that happened. Thanks for letting others know as this can be a problem with lots of people.

bummer this happened to you...

thanks for sharing w/others... yes.. you have to be careful/wary of the wiring in there... it can be tricky...

at least you found out WHAT it was...

Poop, I just installed mine there last night. I hope I didn't catch any wires!! I guess we'll see.

If the CE light isn't on by now, you're probably OK. I'll reinstall the bolt later for the harness- paying attention to what I'm doing.
