Scooby South 06-21-2001, 03:25 PM Look HERE (http://www.vishnuperformance.com/) This will answer all your Questions... Bottom line how much boost do you want and What are your plans for the car...Enjoy Jimmy 06-21-2001, 03:27 PM 7psi max I don't want to get a new tranny NickSTi 06-21-2001, 03:35 PM hmm i miss the car under the username... oh well If you have a turbo RS, it depends on how much boost you are running. It is my opinion you never abolutely need any upgraded ecu; it depends on your system. The biggest, most obvious difference between a factory ecu and a reprogrammable one is the ability to reprogram the latter. the factory ecu was designed to: 1. work with your factory setup 2. work under bad conditions It was not tuned to get the most hp out of the engine. the fuel and timing maps are conservative. But of course the biggest thing is that it is not mapped for the introduction of new parts (turbo, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, or whatever else u add that is new that alters the engine system) Shiv sells the one you asked about for $2500 including bigger injectors and fuel pump. There are other on the market like Haltech, Motec... If you have the money and want to build a system suited for the changes you make to your car then a new ecu is a good direction to point yourself. NickSTi 06-21-2001, 03:39 PM well believe it or not people tear the tranny apart at 5psi. and people also have been surviving at 8psi with a stock tranny. If you do turbo your car, you will have to baby those shifts. punch it, on the clutch, let revs drop, smooth shift, come off the clutch = your tranny will stand a better chance of survival. subywan-kenobi 06-21-2001, 10:34 PM Jimmy, sent you a PM!! Mike S. Kevin Thomas 06-21-2001, 10:48 PM I understand that your stock ECU was not made for your aftermarket parts. People have said that if you reset your ECU that it utilizes a better map or it 'relearns' the air/fuel ratio of sorts. Also, no-one has ever cracked the code of a stock ECU and looked at the available maps or limits of certain attributes of a stock ECU. So how can anyone 'truly' state what the stock ECU is designed to due? For all we know, it could have a very large map and a sort of 'artificial intelligence' ECU that gets smarter the more you drive. :D J/K I know I'm taking this to far now. Hehe! I'm a big chicken so I haven't gone the Tec II route. I can see me saying, "Hrmm....if I do this and that I wonder what will happ...BOOM". :( NickSTi 06-21-2001, 11:44 PM  yeah kevin i tell myself that too. maybe if i punch it a bit quicker and shift it a bit harder it will be fii... but i seriously doubt the learning ecu can handle a change like that. that would be some cool A.I. for real. Maybe the self learning ecu isnt really self-learning but self-adjusting. meaning it starts with a map that works, and fine tunes it yet doesnt stray too far from baseline. if something out of the ordinary occurs, boom it throws a CEL and limps you home. kinda like windoze and a blue screen ;) Hojai 06-22-2001, 06:39 AM i am running 0.4 bar of boost on daily driving and sometimes 0.7 or 1.0 bar of boost if i need to but luckily my tranny is still fine. i hope it will stay the same forever so i will have no problems with my tranny subywan-kenobi 06-22-2001, 09:12 AM 1.0 bar of boost on your stock tranny??? Good luck to you and your tranny!! That is up there with the best I have seen a stock tranny go. Wouldn't you agree though that you are the exception and not the norm?? Either way, that goes to show that a stock 2.5 tranny can take some abuse if treated properly!! Mike S. RyanC 06-22-2001, 09:23 AM Back to the original topic... Yes Jimmy I think it's worth it. You would also have a good install base within 30 minutes of where you live to help you tune the car. You can run pretty well with piggybacks and other means, but it only goes so far... Once I got my car tuned I really haven't had to do anything for about 2 months. I thought I was running too much boost and pinging lately, but it turned out to be bad plugs (so the maps were all good). At +60kPa of boost my injectors are only at 62% duty cycle... there's a lot of headroom for mo' powa! Ryan TEC-II, Turbo, yadda yadda fellfrosch7 06-22-2001, 04:36 PM I think the stock ECU is fine for the people that are either A. cheap or B. don't want to fine-tune their car to get every bit of HP possible. Adam Bloom ran his car with a T3/T4 turbo at 19psi, with the stock tranny and stock ECU for close to 2 years before the tranny blew. If I decide to turbo my car at some point, I'll probably go the low-boost, no electronics route (that way I'm not tempted to "go just a little higher, what's the worst that could happen?"). Jimmy 06-22-2001, 05:29 PM Ryan C Were do you live ? Iam getting my turbo from ASR any time now I need some one to help me tune this kit and install it If you could help me, i would really appercatie it Thanks Lorenzo RyanC 06-23-2001, 01:13 AM I live in Cumberdump, right off of 295. Do you have tools and stuff like that? I just picked up an air gun for my suspension work tomorrow, I don't know how confident I'd feel putting a turbo in though, without help (I paid someone to do it for me). If you check on the NESIC board a couple of other guys might be willing to help us, though, who have done it before. Jimmy 06-23-2001, 03:10 PM Ya I have tools!! Jacks all that goods stuff I have an idea on how the turbo is installed ASR said he include instructions with it..I rather install it myself in stead of have Rallispec or some local place do it.. Its better if I install it to get experiance on how turbos work and understand the car more.. If you could it would be cool if with could meet up some day and help me tune my car. Iamg oing to put a post later this week asking if theres anybody willing to help me install the Kit.. thanks Lorenzo Greg 99 06-23-2001, 08:09 PM Lorenzo, My friend would be interested in helping you install it.The best thing you could do was install it with him. he is a certified Acura mechanic. He works at Inskip. He has a 98rs. he would have you do it along with him for a fee. Not very expensive, btu the best you are going to get in RI.He loves high performance. He is going the turbo route also. His name is Doug Nelson. His screen name on here is cunningham. His email is RSinBRILLIANCE@aol.com thanks, Greg Jimmy 06-24-2001, 01:50 PM Thanks greg Ill email him today Jimmy 06-25-2001, 10:49 AM :o yebokmj 06-25-2001, 02:22 PM I put my kit in myself without a clue. And I did it all with hand tools and jacks in my friend's garage. So I have experiance and would gladdly help out. I live up in MA so I am not to far. But putting it in yourself is one of the most rewarding things ever. Though it is alot of pain as well.
