Does anyone know what the definitive hard number that would represent detonation on the Hydra?
I realize every engine is different and have mine tuned now, but would like to get some insight to what you guys are doing. I was hoping Phil @ element may have an answer?
Anyways my setup is a ej22t with 2.5 SOHC heads, TMIC Vf turbo etc.
Many thanks in advance for the replies

Because the knock thresholds and amplification are adjustable there is no definitive number that equals knock. Like you stated, because every engine is different, and because some model years use different sensors, the knock thresholds will vary to some extent.
I suggest that you be conservative with your knock thresholds by allowing normal noise to closely approach the threshold. The best way to determine normal noise would be to use a knock listening device which is what I use. The other option is to reduce boost, cut timing, and richen up the AFR some and take note of the noise level using either your data logger or the trace "Xs" in your knock threshold map.
Thanks,
Phil

So then if one had actually traced the x's and made the threshold accordingly is it normal to see a variance or two that spike up above the threshold off boost? This happens pretty much every drive.
Thanks for your help Phil! ^^

Normal noise, maybe. Knock, maybe. Not what you wanted to hear I bet. You may want to turn of the amplification and alter the thresholds accordingly to see if it’s just a sensitivity issue. The only true way to know is with a knock headset.
