View Full Version : 07 sti in car and driver
jmanrex 10-13-2004, 09:18 PM did anyone else see the drawing of the 07 sti in the november issue of car and driver
i like the new hood but the alfa romeo front end has to go
and why have a vent in the hood that is right infront of the hood scoop--defeating the purpose of getting cold outside air into the intercooler
other than the front the car looks exactly the same as it does now
the new headlights are very celica like
one question though -- with the fog lights being right below the headlights why does it need fog light covers on the bottom of the front spoiler/bumper
i hope the drawing is just that-- a drawing and they do something else
J-Rex2004 10-13-2004, 10:15 PM and why have a vent in the hood that is right infront of the hood scoop--defeating the purpose of getting cold outside air into the intercooler
well, if you look at the rally car the air goes in the front of the upper grill..into the front mount intercooler that is there....then into some ducting which evacuates it out of the vent in front of the hoodscoop. so the air that comes into the engine bay via the hood scoop is for overall engine and turbo cooling only. fwiw...i personally have been looking for wrc2004 style hoods for my 04 and a hood like that would be welcomed in my book, since prodrive didn't even have a decency to email me back about it when i asked them :furious:
so lets hope that the 07 STi's have that same/similar FMIC setup
ErikAnderson 10-13-2004, 10:30 PM holy crap, i just went to the C&D website, what an amazingly ugly car.
ugly ugly ugly

its growing on me a lil bit.
doesnt come close to the ferocity of painted morrettes on an 02 though.. GNNARRWWLL.
ErikAnderson 10-14-2004, 01:25 AM not that it bothers subaru very much. but i will never drive that car.
lets begin.
1) celica headlights
2) cat vomit front grill
3) lower grill portion in no way flows or matches up with ugly top portion of grill/headlights
4) triangle hood lump.... sucks
5) one hood scoop is good enough, maybe two gives ultra JDM cooling.... but it still is ugly. Looks FINE on a rally car, not so much on a street car.
6) rear spoiler is looking more and more rice, it looks like the top part curves out??? instead of the spoiler ends looking more like this (-----------------) to me it looks like this )----------------------( where i come from, thats rice, and it belongs on a civic or eclipse. but maybe its just my eyes playing tricks on me.
7) did i mention how HORRIBLE the headlights look>?< let me say again... if a lump of fecal matter got sick and threw up, i would rather have that on my car than "chick car" celica headlights.
i am amazed it does not have chrome rims, or maybe some nice white ones.
AEIOU 10-14-2004, 01:33 AM I think that looks awesome myself, way better than the current sti.
Me&STi 10-14-2004, 01:38 AM The new look is ok, but I hope they work out the front a little better. And hopefully we get a better performance from the previous USDM STi.
Akina 10-14-2004, 01:43 AM Me no likey... front end is ugly as hell. I'll stick with the bug-eyes.
twiSTi 10-14-2004, 02:32 AM Ummmmmm...Alfa Romeo?
Looks also a bit EVO wannabeish
SuBart 10-14-2004, 03:05 AM When the bugeyed Impreza came out and compared to the GC8, it looked alot worse than this one compared to the current Impreza.
AzSandSlinger 10-14-2004, 06:41 AM it looks like a sunfire, a celica and the rear end of an STi had a big orgy and this is the spunk that was produced.. yup, I'll keep my bugeye..

STI_Jaguar 10-14-2004, 07:36 AM The headlights need to be rethought.
LordBass 10-14-2004, 08:33 AM Anyone been to 'News & Rumours'? There have been umpteen threads on this topic already..
I predict the MkIII will be like the bugeyes - initial horror followed by understanding ending in an appreciation for the design. I'd just love to see the car lose 200lbs and the current Corolla-inspired face.
F22-Raptor 10-14-2004, 09:42 AM I like my celica headlights over the bugeyes any day of the week. Although I loved my WRX it was a process where I had to learn to love it. Everyone else thought it was ugly. And I agree but it could haul. GC8 was the proper body style they should have gone with but like that hasn't been said before :) Celicas are not "chick" cars. Are neons or RSXs? I put the bugeye WRX in the same category as a Scion Box. So ugly it is almost cute.
endeavor 10-14-2004, 12:24 PM 1) It's a drawing
2) It's drawn by someone NOT in Subaru
3) It's drawn based on vague descriptions of what a next gen Impreza might look like.
It could look something like this, but it might not.
C-daleRidr 10-14-2004, 12:25 PM This kicks ass. All of the WRX owners sound just like us RS owners did when the bugeye came out.
Personally, I'll wait until someone other than car and driver puts a picture out. Until it's seen up close, you can't tell much about a car's appearance. Besides, the bugeyes grew on a lot of folks and, in all honesty, I got to where I was disappointed that they got rid of them.

I have to totally aggree. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Well it looks like I will continue to get the WRX as they did not say anything about changing it's look.

Am I the only one that thinks the Celica is one of the best looking cars around?? Or that the EVO is also one of the better looking cars (not as nice as Celica)? It seems a lot of people are complaining that the design looks too evo-ish or celica-ish...my opinion is, it's *way* better than the current design or the bugeyes, so what's the problem?
This topic has been beat to death six months ago. Some crap only different reincarnations. It's getting tiresome.

Thing is that any redesign will come to pass for all Imprezas. While there are some subtle (well, not so subtle in the case of the wing) differences between a WRX and a WRX STi now, they're not real noticeable (again, short of the wing and maybe the hood scoop). This redesign, like those in the past, will be for the entire lineup, RS (if it's still around), WRX and WRX STi. In fact, if they hold true to form, the WRX will get the new look first and the STi version will follow a year later.
OAK STI 10-14-2004, 04:09 PM Not Too Bad, Kinda Gto Ish Ya Know?

Noted. Yeah but changing the look soo drastically, I truly hope this doesn't come to be true.

Personally I love the bug eyes. Yes those cars are good looking, but not when mixed all together.
Honestly to me it looks like they had to come up with something by a certain date, and they had nothing. So they stirred something up last moment by mixing the: Evo, Celica, STi, the Suby B9 Scrambler, and lots of rice to go along with it. I think they were really rushed and just prayed for the best.
::crosses fingers::
Coldvaper 10-14-2004, 04:24 PM I thought the new impreza was going to be lighter weight 2 door car?
jmanrex 10-14-2004, 07:28 PM Ummmmmm...Alfa Romeo?
did you ever see an alfa -- where do you think fugi/subaru got their lead designer from
and i realize the concept of the 1st opening on the hood to evacuate out hot air but this design is for a front mount not a top mount
they should just go back to the late 90's rs hoods
and to all that are sick of this topic -- sorry for bringing it up again-- i didn't realize that someone had already brought this up( i have a life outside of the internet) :furious:
tee_rexx 10-14-2004, 09:50 PM I agree with lordbass..........lighter and clean up the front end. I kinda (gulp) like it though.

it's not bad if the design is for the future evo... :p
I thought the new impreza was going to be lighter weight 2 door car?
The only 2-door car Subaru will likely ever make again is the Scrambler (if they ever make it). Coupes just didn't sell as well as sedans.

dancemf6 10-17-2004, 07:33 PM I think it looks like a G6 or grand am.
swrtwagon 10-17-2004, 08:23 PM that's friggin tight!
thetikler1 10-18-2004, 12:07 AM i wanna see a pic of the rear, the front actually doesn't bother me that much. but when i look at the rear, thats where it looks like things are getting real ugly
I think I'll be able to live with the new grill eventually, but never with that bulging hood. That is just ugly. The artwork posted above, (I guess from the videogame design, right?) without the bulge, is actually not bad at all.
The headlights are freaking ugly...
It will be great for Subaru to remove that silly hoodscoop and go to a FMIC+hood vent like the WRC car.

mrubino83 11-02-2004, 01:43 PM those are some nice pictures
clamdip 11-02-2004, 03:32 PM well, to tell you the truth. if this new one looks like a celica or alfa romero, the current one looks like a corolla or a maxima. i think the only original WRX or STi was the bug-eyed version. it had it's own distinct look.

This Is Not Mike 11-14-2006, 10:55 PM Can I just ask where in the November 2006 issue these pictures were? Or is this a case of the newsstand edition having different features than the subscription version.
I would have been all over this if it was in my issue. :(

My mistake...I didn't read the date of the original posting.
Beaverboy 11-15-2006, 09:36 AM these guys were far from predicting what the 2007 WRX/STi would like today!'those guys' that made those renderings.. were designers at Subaru. I think the '06/'07 Subaru looks a lot like that. I think those sketches were a good indication of where the styling was heading, and I also feel that the design leaders did an excellent job of integrating it.
Sir_Xenon 11-15-2006, 10:36 AM ahhh much better than it could've been. They've reduced the size of the scschnouze and made the hood line higher due to new pedestrian collision requirements. I dig it.
