View Full Version : How cool is your mom?
Need Money 10-14-2004, 10:50 PM Im pretty sure that everyone's mother is cool to some degree but this dudes mom is definetly one of the coolest :) He was on alaskamotorsports looking for a bov for his mom's wrx. This was his post:
"This is going to sound pretty stupid, but my mom has an 04' wrx on 18's. she also has a carbon fiber sti hood on the way. But she was asking me how to get the cool blow off noise, and i told her i would see if i couldn't find her a BOV. she is going through some sort of mid life crisis or something, and has to have a cool car to show off. but hey i think it is cool that she is trying to pimp out her car and have some fun. just wait, you will see a crazy old lady rallying around anchorage in a blue wrx with a cf hood here pretty shortly.
pike"
Just thought Id share and I already told him about the site. Maybe him and his mom can make it to a meet.

NWWagon 10-14-2004, 11:16 PM My mom's preatty cool. Any time I'm in town on vacation she imediately asks what Bar I want to got to . Also she's a really good swing dancer.
snowdude71 10-14-2004, 11:17 PM yo yo whats up everyone? this is pike, and yeah my mom is a lil' crazy but i love her anyways. She used to have a 69' bug that she dragged back in wash. that ran a 13.6 or so she says. I never had a chance to see it becasue i was three when she sold it. I am going to have to get her to sign up on this board so she can find things her self. Not that i dont mind, but it does make me a little jelous(sp) that she has a cooler car then me.

.RYAN 10-15-2004, 05:33 PM Why doesnt he tell his mom a BOV is bad news?
RallyX13 10-15-2004, 06:42 PM Some people like the sound of BOV's and are willing to deal with the small issues they may cause. I know I loved the sound of mine on my WRX, and did not have any problems with it on. I do not think that they are a big deal, especially if you are not trying to run your car at the limit.

Im in the same boat, TurboX's Type H, No trouble.
02-elite-gettingwrx 10-15-2004, 08:56 PM Pike gimme a call at 301-4902 and we can work something out aight, prolly 180$, its in perfect condition, sounds badass and only gives a bit of wastegate flutter. I just need money for the upcoming snowboard season, gotta get those Burton Cartels :)
P.S. anybody have the bolts for the stock return valve? i think i have misplaced them, i cant really get rid of the blitz until i find some alright Pike.
Peace ~Will~
02-elite-gettingwrx 10-15-2004, 09:00 PM Actually you think i could just have your moms bolts since she's gonna be using the blitz, god i need to think more when i speak
snowdude71 10-15-2004, 09:28 PM hey man i think i am going to have to keep those bolts for warranty purposes. my mom's car still has the warranty which we all know is a good thing to have. my moms car is going into the shop pretty soon to get the sti exaust put on. The thing is my mom is all about the warranty, so anything we put on that could void the warranty, has to be abel to come off when ever it goes back to the shop. but let me know when you ar ready to get rid of it.
what kind of problems is a BOV going to cause? i hear every one talking about how bad there are. but i always thought a bov wouldn't help gain any HP, but would keep things around a stock HP and not casue any trouble on a basiclly stock car. but i dont really know haven't every had one myself.
thanks
pike
02-elite-gettingwrx 10-15-2004, 10:38 PM Hmm well then i guess i need to find some stock bolts, i know my BOV has never caused any trouble, the car will feel a bit different between shifts, it will cause the car to run a bit richer (which causes me to shoot flames ocassionally :D ) But that wouldnt happen to your mom if she's just running the sti cat-back of course. I've never had any problems with it, and the sound is awesome, doesnt give any power gains but its supposed to prolong the life of the turbo. I've only heard bad things about one type, that would be the turboxs bov, do a search and see what you come up with. Let me find some bolts and we can get rolling. Anyone else care to comment?
Thanks ~Will~
00Maddog 10-15-2004, 11:27 PM when ever the bov vents all the excess fuel hits the cats and can damage them and set egt codes. Best to wait until the cats are gone. Then all you'll do is scuff the rings pistons and cylinders from all the excess gas:D
They make bov's that return some air to the intake and vent some atmospheric too, they would probably work best with factory engine managment and cats. Then she can have the sound with less worries.
I saw more bov's at conti than anything else, no one really paid much attention because it's considered a powerless mod.
Need Money 10-16-2004, 03:03 AM How much she paying for the sti exhaust? and to have it installed at that? I have one that I'll sell to her, it's lightly used but still an sti axelback.
Mike
Einsti3n 10-16-2004, 03:06 AM Go fast bits makes a 50-50 Diverter valve. Dosent look to bad and sounds good too... Another benifit on higher Horsepower applications is that the stock valve can only support up to so much pressure. I know that on a supra the stock diverter tends to leak boost after a certain amount of psi and thats another benifit... but if your mom is worrying about warrenty, i dont think that boost leak from the diverter will play a part in the set up. So just get a GFB BOV, if you want to save the cats and have the sound...But i guess at the same time if you got an intake you would hear the stock diverter vent more. By the way good to see you on the board Pike this is Devin Stiller.
AK_2002_WRX 10-16-2004, 05:38 AM if you want sound...the GFB is too quiet....loud an screams look at me....turboXS RFL or HKS Super sequential.. if u want a decent sounding BOV forge sounds good.
i am the bov king....tried different ones and got rid of em within a week or 2....haha...
i prefer just getting an intake. bovs hurt my gas mileage cause i would drive to make it vent loud...and i'm paranoid about weird sounds....so the turboflutter noise made me take teh BOVs off....but the best performing one i used was the HKS....no problems with that one...and it vented real good, like stock. but only thing that sucks is the price...its nearly $300.
heres my order...
turboXS intake w/stock bpv > HKS > forge > turboXS > GFB
02-elite-gettingwrx 10-16-2004, 06:41 AM buy my blitz, it ownzzzz and its ****ing loud :)
.RYAN 10-16-2004, 03:46 PM How far away could you hear it blow off?
svt_contour 10-16-2004, 04:46 PM wes' sti catback is on the side of my house and has been for quite a while.. he would probly sell that one too
00Maddog 10-16-2004, 05:36 PM Hit up some forester xt owner, that'd be a good place to sell an sti exhaust for decent money. I heard it bolts right on, just tip doesn't stick out quite as far, like an inch or so difference.
snowdude71 10-16-2004, 07:40 PM sweet sweet thanks for the info everyone. i
will- hey i will still take that BOV off your hands when ever. if she doesn't like the way it perfomrs then i can always take it back off, not to big of deal.
thanks
pike
