View Full Version : "Pshhhhhh" noise when pushing in clutch?

I've got a 2000 TS/L and I get a "pshhhhh" sound sometimes when I press in the clutch peddle. It is the kind of sound you hear when a liquid or gas seeps through a small opening.

It doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while when the car is cold and it goes away after a few minutes of driving.

I'm told that the 2000 TS has a cable driven clutch so it shouldn't be clutch fluid? Any ideas what this might be?

Thanks.

Sure its not something with a wastegate/bov?

It's a 2000 TS. It doesn't have a turbo.

I would look for something like a loose hose.
Other than that, can't really help you out.

Are you running the engine pretty hard when you shift (snapping off throttle)?

No, not hard, nothing over maybe 4000 or 4200 rpm? It is definately on the clutch. It can be all the way in and it'll still be "Pshhhh"ing. The noise goes for maybe 1 second.

I can't always reproduce it so the local shop isn't much help.

Oh, just a thought, in a cable driven clutch, is the cable pretty much directly connected to the mechanism that disengages the clutch? Or is there a spring or something used to dampen shudders and stuff? I was thinking, what if my clutch is kinda sticky, but only sometimes when it is cold? Then the clutch could kinda be disengaging slowly and making noise?

Just a shot in there dark!

Odd, does it sound like a bov? (I know there's no turbo)

Its a common annoyance. If it goes away after the cold then I wouldnt worry about it too much. If its something that you hear on a regular basis it could be the throwout bearing.
