View Full Version : Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S traction rating question
Paulie V 10-15-2004, 08:12 PM Well, ordered a set of these from the Rack and of course, excellent service and fast shipping, but I noticed something that others on here have noticed that's kind of odd. The sticker on them has a Traction rating of AA, but when you look at the actual sidewalls, it says traction rating A. I thought I read something about how they used to be made in the US, but now they're made in Germany. Does anyone know what the deal is? Luke, can you shed some light? Just curious.
Thanks,
Paul
Luke@tirerack 10-16-2004, 09:43 AM got any pictures ... all of the P-Zero Nero M&S tires I have seen have a "AA" traction rating
Paulie V 10-16-2004, 11:40 AM Luke,
I'll have to email them to you, can't get this pic posting thing to work.
SeaRex had posted that he noticed this too. Any ideas? Just a curiosity thing. FYI, they all said "Made in Germany"
Thanks,
Paul
OneOBS 10-16-2004, 12:09 PM Mine are "A" for both temp and traction. Just put them on and enjoy them.
porque 10-16-2004, 01:13 PM Mine say Traction AA Temperature A
Got them about a month ago
Edit: Mine are in 225/45/17
Maybe size is why some say AA and others say A?
bull3964 10-16-2004, 01:31 PM I got mine a few weeks ago. 225/50/16.
They also say A traction A temperature.
tekfoc 10-16-2004, 09:55 PM mine had double aa traction on the side wall .got them a couple of weeks ago
bull3964 10-17-2004, 09:02 PM Now updated with 100% more photo evidence.

Paulie V 10-17-2004, 09:05 PM Hey, thanks, bull! Looks better than my picture!
Looks like something changed when they went to manufacture these in Germany.
psyber_0ptix 10-17-2004, 09:11 PM maybe its dependent on the overall tire size. i.e radius = 16 or 17
cptplt 10-17-2004, 11:20 PM about 90% of their sizes are AA, a few A only
bluesubie 10-18-2004, 10:47 AM about 90% of their sizes are AA, a few A only
Yep, just check Tire Rack's specs. (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Pirelli&model=PZero+Nero+M%26S)

That picture is of a 225/50/16 which is listed in Tirerack's specs as AA traction.
Paulie V 10-18-2004, 11:37 PM Mine's 205/55/16, shown as AA on Tirerack's site.
powerslide23 10-19-2004, 02:00 AM I'm thinking of getting this tire as well. Is it good overall?

I'm loving these tires quite a bit. They've totally transformed the car. I even had the opportunity to run them on 3 short autocross runs on Sunday and I was amazed at the level of grip they provided.
Drove home from work tonight in a hard driving rain and the car feels like it's on dry pavement. They are also quieter than the stock tires.
The only variable left is to see how they perform in snow, give me a 2 months or so for that one.
Luke@tirerack 10-21-2004, 01:58 PM the official response from Pirelli
Production for this tire has recently moved to a new plant, and during the transition the new molds were branded with only a single A traction rating. The tires coming from the new plant have been tested and do achieve the AA wet traction performance level, just like tires from the original production plant. Pirelli will be modifying the molds in the future to reflect the AA UTQG traction rating.
and The Tire Rack official response
Since the tire still achieves the AA performance level, the single A brand "under promises" the wet traction of the tire. The Tire Rack has changed the listing online to the single A, reflecting what is branded on the sidewall of our current inventory. We will update the UTQG specification published on our site to 400 AA A once our on hand inventory is made up of tires branded with the AA on the sidewall.
bull3964 10-21-2004, 02:01 PM Cool.
I really didn't have an issue with it one way or another, but it's good to hear what the offical respones was.
