View Full Version : G-Tech Pro results on turbo RS
blaster88 06-22-2001, 04:43 PM I haven't been able to track down a truly good flat straight piece of road, but I found something decent and only got one good run at the 1/4 mi in, but it turned a 14.62 @ 100mph.
This is using a Legacy turbo (intercooled) at 5 lbs of boost.
Using the RayHall Engineering calculator and a guesstimated car weight of 3300 lbs (I think that may be light), that says 208 hp - about what I was guessing.
Awaiting my DawesDevices now....
Rich L 06-22-2001, 05:09 PM Blaster,
I wouldnt take that result as actual performance.
With 6psi... (and a smaller turbo) im hitting 1/4 mile times in the upper 13s with speeds between 97-99mph.
Try to time your car at a track. Thats the best mesure of how well your mods are working.
good luck.
nitrousjunkie68 06-22-2001, 06:40 PM unless your car is loaded up with stuff, i would think it would weigh a good bit less than 3300 lbs.
ColinL 06-22-2001, 07:27 PM lessee... wet MY00 RS (full of gas, etc.) = 2840lb
biggest driver (within reason) = 300lb
turbo kit = ~100lb
yep, most likely 3300lb was too high.
Rich, how in the world do you have a turbo smaller than Blaster's?
blaster88 06-22-2001, 10:37 PM Prolly too high, you're right.
I thought the 2845 weight of the sedan was not wet - I added myself and a half tank of gas, some weight for the turbo etc., and even then it would be less - prolly closer to 3100-3150, which makes it closer to 200 hp by the calculator.
The weird part is the 100 mph final speed - could be the road slope or something - the speedo indicated more like 95.
Rich L 06-23-2001, 01:55 AM Rich, how in the world do you have a turbo smaller than Blaster's?
Collin: I must have told this story a hundred times!
Andy at Rallispec helped me make this project work... and installed a custom kit that included a Mitzu TDO5-12A-8CM2 turbocharger, rated at 320 CFM @ 15psi. (the same stock turbo off a 2.6lt 1989 Crysler Conquest TSI.
At only 6 psi... Im not pushing alot of air. Spool up is great very SC'er like... and performance is documented.
So I have the smallest turbo!
Laugh all you want. But why have a turbo that flows great at 17psi when you only run 6psi?! On top of that, my exhuast is only 2.25"!
My car defies the logic of most guys on this board (that bigger is better). People say... you need a 3" exhaust, a bigger turbo, yada yada yada....
so far at 6psi no tranny problems... lots of torque... and Mustangs fall down before me.:D
Just ask the guys in the tri-state forum... when ever I drag race at Atco Raceway, my car always gets a good lead. Small turbos are the bomb!:D
ImprezaRS dot com 06-23-2001, 03:19 AM My gtech times on the JCS legacy turbo kit at 5 psi was 14.65 @ 97.5mph and the speedo was reading 95mph also!
Sounds like a pretty consistent result for that kit, but I was at 6,000 feet when I ran that.
Larry
Rich L 06-23-2001, 03:47 AM blaster,
Larry brings up a good point.
at what altitude did you time yourself?

All I have to say is that RichL has shown me the light and that I am a believer. Thanks Rich!
blaster88 06-23-2001, 07:37 AM In Northern VA - can't be more than 3-400 feet above sea level here, I think.
I'm just trying to provide a data point here, not figure how who has the bigger penis.
Rich L 06-23-2001, 10:22 AM Another factor is the hot humid weather.
Try ice on your IC for 30minutes.
See if that changes your times.
Personally I not confident the the G-Tech's accuracy, try the track.
I apologize for rambling about turbo stuff and changing the focus of the topic. I never claimed to have a big turbo or penis.
ImprezaRS dot com 06-23-2001, 02:50 PM Uh... huh huh..... huh... huh....
