The title basicly sums it up. Anybody know if a outback sport (pre-bugeyes) can haul a snowmobile on a trailer? I'm needing a new car, and ouback sports appeal to me because of good gas mileage, decent looks, and can get to the mountains. I recently have been thinking of getting a snowmobile for this winter, wondering if the Sport would still be a decent choice.

Thanks, Teague

Kart trailer + kart + supplies, around 500lbs. Not sure how heavy a snowmobile is, but I don't even feel the 500lbs towed behind me.

My 97 OBS (5MT) owner's manual indicates 1,500 lbs max towing capacity, max tongue weight 150 lbs. The EJ22 has decent torque down low, so it's a good choice for towing.

My friend towed his with his 2.5 RS with no problems at all. I know the OBS is less HP but should still do okay.

the 2.2 and the 2.5 have very little difference in HP. And I haul camping gear and a quad on the back of mine i dont notice it back there really it doesnt really grunt to pull.

On a trailer, yes.

Without a trailer, no!

Just pop the hatch, put down the back seat, and pull that sucker in the back.

The manual says something about trailer brakes if over 1000lbs. Consensus thinks this is just a buch of CYA from Subaru. Please have towed a lot more.

1998 - 2.2l = 137hp (http://www.edmunds.com/used/1998/subaru/impreza/14294/specs.html?tid=edmunds.u.prices.leftsidenav..6.Sub aru*)
2002 - 2.5l = 165hp (http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/subaru/impreza/100002229/specs.html?tid=edmunds.u.prices.leftsidenav..6.Sub aru*)

I'd call a ~17% increase more than a "very little differance"; granted it's not like going out and buying a WRX, but still a noticable improvement.

Anyway to answer the OP I think so long as it's not more than ~1500lbs total/175lbs tongue than it will work fine.
