Well I was at my local Fry's electronis in Austin Texas buying an amp, subs, and 4 speakers, the salesmen looked up the sizes for the wrx speakers and said that I needed to get 6.5 speakers all the way around, so I got 4 6.5 inch polk audio db speakers. Then I have read that the wrx speakers in the back are smaller than that, will the 6.5's still fit in the back? or did the salesman mess up and I will have to go return the speakers? thanks to everyone that helps me out on this one im kinda stuck.

return everything, read this forum and www.bcae1.com. Order from the internet/ebay and save $.

edit: shoot the guy who sold you the stuff.

No, return everything like ill said. He probably was going to use the radio to power the 4 speakers and the amp for the sub. If its a "1000 watt" I assume its not of the highest quality. Your better off with a quality 50 watt per channel amp then you are with a crappy "1000 watt" amp most of the time.

I suggest you spend some time reading/ searching on the web. You should be able to make a much better informed decision if you do.

If you dont want to read about it go to a bunch of the custom shops in your area and ask them for an estimate on a system. Just ask them what they reccommend. That way you can at least get a little more informed and im sure you will get multiple suggestions.

If you check this page out https://w109.webminders.com/iaperformance/catalog.asp?action=showCatalog&typeNumber=44&sectionNumber=59 you can buy adapters for your car to fit 6.5" in the front and 5.25" in the rear. Also I can almost garentee the front speakrs you got are too deep to install without spacers anyways.

dude youre not getting anything in the rear without adapters or modification anyway. i suppose a 4" will fit but thats hardly worthwhile. i threw a 5.25" and had to grind away part of the door but that was no prob.. just traced the speaker with a black marker and cut out the lines. now knowing i was going to grind no matter what, i wish i'd just installed another set of 6.5"s.

well i dont think they are to deep, 2 inches, i would return everything and buy online, but they will probably on give me store credit since i lose my fkin reciept, I did buy my deck online, the Sony cdx-m8800 i read good reviews about it, so could it just power my 4 speakers the sony HU can put out 52 watts per channel? the speakers can handle 60 watts of continuous power, so assuming worst comes to worst could I use the 1000 watt amp to power the 2 10 in polks, they can hand 175 watts continuous power. and use the deck to power the 4 speakers. thanks guys you have been a huge help, i know i have messed up pretty bad but i want to try and make the best of this. I will talk to my dad about grinding that might no be a problem maybe i can keep the speakers. If anyone can give me suggestions on what to do if u cant return anything help me out, thanks.

If the radio is rated at 52 watts... it makes about 20rms im sure.

I have a 2 beastly alpine 5 channel amps that would be perfect for you.

There a bit on the pricey side tho. I have one used but in mint condition and another that is still new in the box.

They will power your whole system, and include internal crossovers. a single amp with x/over will save you money on the install also.

BUT on that note...

A five channel amp is perfect if you DO NOT plan on upgrading the system after doing it the first time.

If you want to go crazy boomastic out of control... buy seperate amps and x/overs etc.

Several thing I have to say. I used to sell car stereos at Fry's and the car speaker database sucks. Yes, the speakers are 6.5" in diameter! However the WRX has no space inside the door between the metal and the window. Itz something like 1.8" of depth. Just about nothing will fit in the doors without some sort of spacer and/or door panel modification. Your Sony HU can not realy put out 52 watts per channel, in reality it only does somewhere around 17-25 watts per channel. Just like the amp, go buy continuous power (rms), not peak power. Which 1000 watt amp did you buy? The Crunch? Sounds like you bought the Polk-GNX subwoofers.... If you are an audiophille, take them back! As for what to do with the Polk db-650 or db6500 if you got the components, take them back aswell if you dont want to do any door moding. Like the others say, go online and save money - Fry's = you pay MSRP. Mark-up in some cases is over 100%! How much do you really wanna spend??? Lemme know, I can help you out. -Dan

wow yes it was the crunch, and i think they are those subs 2, and they are db650 coaxial, im not an audiophile, i just want a decent system i doubt frys will take the stuff back without a reciept. and v6 how much for the used amp? I want to try and work with what I have. But we will see with your suggestions.

He is pretty much right on... BUT!!!

You dont need to buy expensive subs unless you want TONS of bass. If you just want a little thump, buy decent subs and you wont have to throw tons of power at them.

If you buy top of the line subs and throw a minimum amount of power to them they will sound like crap.

Just like when modding a car, If you can figure out your goal before starting the project you should be able to have a much better outcome. You wont buy anything you dont need, or do things twice in the long run like MANY MANY people do.

And be honest with yourself. Afterall, you are the one that has to pay for it / gets to play with it.

I'll PM you with the prices for the amps.

They will give you store credit without a reciept, if you used a credit card, they can look up your invoice and get you a new reciept. The Crunch amp is pretty decent contray to popular belief, they are actually made by Hifonics. The GNX subs will be fine for what you are looking for. I recommend the speakers I got. MB Quart, came with the spacers and fit and sound excellent...the components are about 60-80 more expensive than what you probably paid for the db-650 coaxials. BTW... Sony=All show no go. :p

I'm looking forward to hearing these 8"s... I doubt they will set the world on fire... but I doubt they will 'suck' too.

They will be getting 300watts rms ea...

We will see...

Nice. I got them from a friend that had them both in his Caddy EXT. He said they bumped pretty good, but didnt 'pound'. Thats pretty much what I would expect. Idont really want too much thunder plus I deadened the hell out of my car. That should help with the bass a little too.

... If i wasnt so lazy I would know already. :D

You should not have to cut any metal in the rear doors with most 5.25 speakers. Unlike the front doors they have a decent amount of space in the back so depth isn't usually a critical problem. I got rear spacers from IAPerformance and my CDTs fit without rear clearance issues. The plastic in front of the speakers is another matter. If your tweeter sticks out much from the center of your coax rear speakers you may have to grind off some of the plastic from the inside of the door card and use longer retaining clips (provided by IAP) to space the door card further out from the speaker face.

I had 6.5 coax's put in the doors all around. I didn't think it could be done, but the installer promised it would fit without modification to the panel... sure enough, when I came back, 6.5's all around (and 6x9's in the rear panel, to boot). Blessed Audio in Queens did the install; said he did an STi the same way, that's how he knew it would fit.

did he cut the back deck for the 6x9's? Im adding a couple 6.5's back there and thankfully avoided grinding anything.

no, just slapped them in. the cutouts are for a 6x8's, I think, but the 6x9's fit good.

i think for the wrx. The back deck where the third brake light is, there's 2 precut holes in the metal already, it's visible from underneath when u poke your head in trunk.
