The spec C is not designed to win any beauty contests, only to win races.

That is the Spec C Limited, not the Spec C Type RA. ;)

And, yes, San Remo Red needs to be an option for the US STi.

I think this Spec C Type RA is the exact same thing as the old Spec C Limited. It's a Spec C with air conditioning and some STI parts on it, basically. I don't know why they didn't call this version the limited version...

There is a webpage describing the differences between the 05 Spec-C and the 04 Spec-C. Most interesting is that the 05 weighs almost 150 lbs less than the 04. It's around 3000lbs. Aluminum roof (new), aluminum trunk (new), no big spoiler, lightweight glass, etc.

The wheelbase is 15mm longer and the turning radius is a little larger.

http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/e/GRN/bulletins/040902.html

Actually now that I look at that, the 04 Homologated STI was just the base regular STI. For 2005 they homologated the Spec C, which has always been lighter and a little different in geometry than the regular STI.

MattDell
10-20-2004, 02:49 PM
But is the wheelbase wider? That was the main difference between the old Limited and RA.

Where does it say that it has an aluminum roof?

Umm '04 Spec C vs. '05 Spec C, In addition to the Aluminum roof, aluminum trunk, and lightweight glass... there's also a new PCD... 5x114.5, 17x8 rims, 235/45/17 tires, new suspension componets (as you can see on the USDM '05 STis) I'm sure even more advanced/upgraded than the USDM/JDM '05 STis. The new inverted and dampening adjustable struts. yaw contol...helical diff

Although, you can read everything in that link you provided

Regardless, I want one, Iwant one in red, and I want it now!

lightweight glass, etc.

BTW both the 04 and 05 US models already had the 100" (2540mm) wheelbase. I thought the priod JDM Spec C RA had it too.

The prior car did already have lightweight rear glass (like we get) but it sounds like they lightened the entire glass package.

We got all of that in the 05 STi except the 235 tires. And we got the multi-phase valved, and inverted, struts.

Also it appears to mount on the factory spots that the STi does?

Which reminds me of a car driven by Stig Blomquist(?) and it was a turbo 2.0l car that ran 0-60 in 2.1 sec and some ridiculously low 0-100mph times.
It was a competition rally car i think.

Thread hijack!

Ford RS200. Evolution version ("RS200E") did 0-60 in 3.09 and very nearly took the 0-100-0 record. The Group B rally car driven by Stig was sub 3 second 0-60 (on gravel!)

The evolution was a turbo 2.1 (producing up to 650BHP), the street and rally cars were turbo 1.8's producing 250-450 BHP, generally.

I have run my grubby hands over 4 of them (so far), including Stig's rally car.

Glenn

All JDM stis including the spec-c is a 2.0 liter turbo with an 8k redline.

The sticker of the ring itself would be kind of novel to have; I've seen just the outline (with no text) on the trunk of some Subarus pictured at the ring. Wouldn't want to commit the original sin of rice by advertising my car as something it wasn't with a Spec C sticker...

SUBE555
10-21-2004, 01:49 PM
That definitely is one heck of a car! With some of the systems in there, our STi would truly be a different creature, and cost about $2-4k more too.

The black interior is definitely more classy than the blue though.

SUBE555
10-21-2004, 04:17 PM
I'm just not preferential to that rear wing spoiler, but I can live with it, espcially since it's there for function over form. I actually really like those wheels on there and that chin spoiler, well, I'd rather have all my body trim painted, but I could live with it. It's a function, pure function car, nothing less. Reasons why it can do what it can at tracks like the Nurburgring!

How so?

Both are semi-closed deck.
Both have forged rods.
Both have cast hypereutec pistons (or did the last time i looked)

Dimensionally there are some challenges for the 2.5, but a lot were address in the EJ257.
