Your first post reminds me that Subaru's trademarked slogan for the Outback, "The World's First Sport Utility Wagon," wasn't exactly true. :)

Actually I was thinking about this, and technically I think Subaru did have the first "sport utility wagon" crossover, but it wasn't an Outback. It was actually in 1975, when they switched for one year to the strange "____ Star" nomenclature. In '76 they just called it a GL 4x4 Wagon.

Driven one Eagle.. was not impressed. Horrible packaging when compared to modern day wagons... and not very good when compared to Subaru's offerings at the time.

Agreed... they could offroad pretty well though.
