View Full Version : JDM Ver8 STi motor w/ TEC3 or other standalone?

Anyone running anything similar?

Trying to see if there will be any serious issues running the V8 STi motor w/ Twinscroll with the TEC3.

I know I will not get as fast of spoolup or midrange to begin with. But was planning on possibly doing bigger non AVCS cams later anyway.

I don't have the time or money to pay someone to rewire, and I already have a TEC3 that should be very capable of running the motor, minus AVCS.

Also just looking for spoolup results or any info for a Ver8 Twinscroll without AVCS - it's a bit harder to find than all the Ver7 setups even with twinscroll...

Thanks in advance,
-Tim

Because he doesn't want to do all the wiring associated with using the wrx harness and ecu. This will save him some wiring and money.

Exactly. The TEC3 is powerful enough to do pretty much anything I want (apart from controlling AVCS) the wiring is all there and I already own it.

Plus the engine set I bought doesn't come with wiring (only the ECU) as it's ment to be used in a USDM WRX.

Motec is a hard wire in option.

Have you ever done any tuning on your Tec3 or any standalone before? Its not easy. I am tuning my buddies 1.8t Gti with the Tec3. It easy to get it running but you will spend weeks (or longer) getting the cold start, throttle enrichment and VE tables tuned. I am just warning you, I would rather spend the time wiring in the factory ECU then tuning one that will never be as good!

no

get a hydra and wire it

the avcs is worth it

Yeah tuned the RS-T with the TEC3, I know how difficult it is and how much time it takes. The motor went @ 100k after being boosted for 15k+ (10psi daily for most of that) and I had ran nitrous on the motor prior to the turbokit.

But I don't have the bulkhead nor engine harness to wire it in...
if I wanted to. I'd have to find a WRX one, wire that in then atleast buy a reflash or a UTEC for it to run on pump gas well enough.

As far as the Hydra goes... has anyone ran their AVCS control?
Not sure how all the wiring would work out for that aswell... considering it uses the stock sensors, correct? There's still alot of wiring missing.

Like I said looking for options/advice on this.

Any clue how much the WRX wiring would cost if I could find it? Still keeping that open as a possibility. The TEC3 would definately bring in some funds. I just need a car to drive and who knows how long it'd take me to do the rewire once I get the parts.

Any other options?

o
i misread sorry
i am using the 1.8 bulk/engien head harness on my ej20G
i don't see a reason that you couldn't do the same

all you really need is the crank, and temp sensors and a new set of maganacores
i moved the pins on the tps and wrapped up the inector leads .. still the avcs would be nice to have working

After speaking with Hydra, they use a Pulse Width Modulation based on Load/RPM (same as teh TEC3 GPO). The trick is using the right frequency and play around with duty cycle % and see what it does with datalogging. You could get a relay to split the signal to go to both left and right AVCS solenoids.

I think it's possible to control avcs. I have a V8 motor coming in and i'm going to try it with the tec3.

Let's keep in touch with each other's progress.
