Hey guys, I did a conversion on a 93LS auto and put in 98 ej25 from a forester. I also converted auto to a stick, wheels, seats, clutch setup etc, all from a salvaged forester that I bought. Anyway, I used ej18 ecu. It runs ok, bogs a little on startup, runs a little rich, and has 6k redline.
What Im thinking to do is find a junker 93 legacy, take out the ecu for $50 and it should plug right in right? Wiring diagrams are identical. The reason I want to do it is 7000 redline, a little leaner, might not bog on startup?
Other option is doing a piggy back off of ebay for a $100 A/f only though, but I could get the mapping dead on. Your thoughts?

I think the ej18 is a 3 plug ecu, whereas the ej22 is a 4 plugger. I think it was supermoose that confirmed this. It's in a swap post somewhere.

The Ej22s Redlines and bounces of the revlimiter at 6,500, besides max hp is 5,600 why would you want to go any higher then 6k anyway? I would also think your car is going to run similar with the legacy ecu in. The ecu is made for a 2.2 just like the 1.8 is made for a 1.8. If your going to go through the hassel look for a 2.5 outback our something mid 90's with a 2.5, and swap the ecu in.

Search the forum. There's a couple of threads on this. Again, I think it was supermoose, he had his ej18 ecu hacked to let it redline higher. I think it would also benifit from some sort of fuel control computer, like an safc or something. Just do some searching.

Actually, the EJ18 ECu is a great ECU for an EJ25 with upgraded cams because it runs more advanced timing maps. I drove one of these the other day and was quite impressed. It was an '03 EJ25 block w/DOHC '98 heads and HKS STi 272 degree cams and a bumped redline in a '93L. Worthless below 4500rpm, but once you hit that magic number it shoots straight to 7500rpms. Do a little more research and contemplating before you actually bail on that 1.8 ECU...
