Now I'm usually the first person to proclaim "I don't like NASCAR"

Buuuutttt.....

Nascar today at Sears Point, I was finally able to watch what Nascar is like with right hand turns and chicanes and S's.

The footage was great, excellent coverage of the course and driver footwork. As the race progressed I noticed the transformation between the oval racer to the track racer, albeit some never grasped the concept of 'slow-in out-fast'. I was suprised how smoooooth the top 10 drivers were while driving the course.

I'm definitely watching more of the road course races, to bad they only do 3 or so a year.

I watched sears point today too (only because I dont get speedvision), and it was pretty interesting.
I was really rooting for Jeff Gordon, he seems to be the only nascar driver that really knows how to drive a road course well. He usually dominates road courses. Only came in 3rd today though.

I watched with amusement. They were complaining about how hard it was to set up the car turn properly in both directions, booo hoo.

It was looking a bit like club racing out there rather than the big leagues ;p

I saw bits an pieces as well. I personally hoped that Robby Gordon wouldv'e won, or perhaps some of the real road drivers like Boris Said. Robby has a good foundation of driving the wheels off of anything....I've seen him in Baja and he can drive a truck through the whoops like nobody's business. But, he just can't make the truck seem to lastmore than 250 miles!


other than that, I can't stand how every soccer mom minivan has a big GM "3" on it or something like that. But hey, they're makin' money...more than what SCCA ProRally can boast.

I'm not a huge fan of Nascar either, but I really enjoy watching it when the race tracks like Watkins Glen or Sears Point. I'd be curious to see how a "stock car" would handle on a street course, or how a BTCC star driver would handle a course like Sears Point in a stock car?

I like road racing so when NASCAR hits the road course I become a fan. The best drivers can drive anywhere in anything. I did manage to miss yesterdays race. Does anyone know if it will be rebroadcast & where?

i belive fox rebroadcasts either mondays or tuesdays on fox sports net around noon.

i've been a nascar fan for years, the roadcourses are always interesting to watch, simply because nascar stock cars we never designed with that kind of racing in mind, its fun to watch those guys sling those behemoth cars around a tight track.

most nascar fans were never big robby gordon fans, because always had an attitude, and never won, if you win, then your attitude can be accepted. boris said is one of the best road course racers out there, it woulda been cool to see him win one.

oh, and im glad jeff gordon didnt win!

Ricky Rudd, Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin are also good road course drivers, as is (obviously) Tony Stewart. All these guys seem to know how to turn right once in a while.

I grew up about an hour from Darlington and the first sports celebrity I ever met was Buddy Baker. That being said I'm not that much of a NASCAR fan anymore. Sure it generates revenue but I get tired of hearing driver interviews where they have to rattle off all their sponsors' names before talking racing. It's become too much of a product. I've especially lost interest the farther the cars moved away from being "stock." Our Subarus have much more in common mechanically with the professional rally cars than your garden variety Taurus, Intrepid, Grand Prix or Monte Carlo do with their NASCAR counterparts.

I can't wait for the day the WRC sets foot in the US.
