I have a wrx and was looking to do something different than what the average people in my area were doing and i was wondering how much it would cost to do a Ej207. I don't know much about the set up or installation as this section of the subies is new to me, but any info you guys got would help. Sorry if this is a dumb question or in the wrong section

Right section... cost depends on what you want and well they can get very expencive. $4-5k for a ver 7. More for a ver 8. Make sure you get a harness and ecu with what ever motor you pick and if you search in this forum you can find answers to just about every question you can come up with. Install is going to cost 2 to 4k depending.

I say try to get the entire motor/tranny/associated bits. You will get cut a deal, an dyou can recoupe a lot of the cost by selling your WRX motor and drivetrain.

The tranny is the sweetest part, trust me.

Ok well i guess i have another noob question then. Ive seen a lot of shortblock assemblies for sale and i was wondering what i would need to do a short block install such as the ej207 shortblock assembly from rallispec. I can get the install done at a local shop, but what other requirements (tuning, parts, etc) would be required to install?

this is the site rallispec (http://www.rallispec.com/)

click on sport parts and then on engine systems and last shortblock components

Thanks

Keep in mind rallispecs parts are brand new... you can get a used long block + harness + turbo and so on for the price of thier new blocks. I would not bother with a 207 short block... the best part of the jdm blocks is the heads.

I agree with what everyone has said so far...do the total swap...I still regret that I don't have a six speed yet

If you decide to go for just the motor check out the vendor forums...you can usually find a v7 or v8 motor for around ~$4K. Be sure that you get the harness and ECU with your purchase.

I had my local Subaru dealership do the install for me and the total cost came out to a little under $1200. And they were able to get the AVCS wired up with a little bit of research on these threads by me.

Set aside about an extra $1k and get tuned(ECUtek licensing fees and about an hour or two of dyno tuning)

I also did a new clutch and flywheel while everything was ripped apart.

Hope that gives a little bit of insight to your project...Good Luck!!
