My friend is thinking about buying a 2.5rs and wants to do a full STI conversion to it. But i thought i read some where that it would be better to do the swap with a wrx. Any ways he wants to go all JDM with this. He wanted me to find out if he would need anything else other than what you would need when you do a wrx-2-STI conversion. He isn't going to bother to put a hood scoop because he wants to add a front mount right away and wants to know if he will run into any problems when he installs it( ie will he have to cut things other than the bumper supports, plans on using a greddy)? Thanks Sean.

helpful!

Yes, it would be much easier to do in a WRX. The wiring for the WRX is nearly identical to that of a version 7-8 sti motor. The NA RS wiring is completely differing. It can be done, but it would be a lot more work. Honestly, I would get an older style RS and recoupe some of the money in the car and put it into the swap. OR, you could get a used WRX, and save a little money by selling the WRX motor and drivetrain.

My WRX-> sti swap cost 6k out of pocket after I sold everything. This included brakes and suspension.

Two options. Sell it and get a WRX or sell it, get a pre 2002 2.5RS or L and do a swap on that.

Well Buddy The Rs Engine Wouldn't Be Able To Take It Nor The Fram That Is Why The Made The From From Hydro-forming (the Sti) So That It Could Take The Stress Plus The Would Have To Be Made For Vvt So That It Would Breath Better So You Could Handle The Boastthe Cost Would Bring It Back Up To The Sti In Funds Alone Plus You Wouldn't Have The Diff. To Change Since It Would Be Locked In A 50/50 Which Wouldn't Give You Very Much Control In Fast Starts Or In Turns Do To The Over-under Steer

Is that some kind of grammar excersize? I don't think you have your facts straight anyway. I could be misunderstanding what your trying to say though.... Kinda hard to figure out what you're trying to say, let alone what is remotely close to the truth.

IIRC, you'll need the rear diff(maybe all axles also); I'd get the full drivetrain

I thought about doing a USDM STI swap into my 01 Impreza 2.5RS. But now after researching and thinking about it, I am gonna keep my RS until it breaks or until I find a really good deal on an STI and just get an STI. Even w/ a engine/ECU/wiring harness/tranny from the STI which would cost a ton of $, there are many other parts of the RS that would break under the stress of the STI power. Much easier to just get the 04-05 STI. Just my 2 cents.
