MAX Series Info:

If you have the power, this is your clutch!! Turboclutch MAX Series clutches have powered many of the fastest cars down the track for the past 10 years. This is a proven winner that has been perfected over the years to become the standard it is today.
MAX pressure plates offer 400 to 600 pounds of extra clamping force to hold your biggest power. 9 second Supra’s, 10 second 300ZX’s and 3000GT VR4’s, 10 second Honda’s and Eclipse’s all use Turboclutch MAX!
RPS is the only clutch company with a U.S. Patent (#5,769,973) on their single diaphragm pressure plate technology. Our unique dual diaphragm technology allows us to create almost any clutch unit with any pressure ranging from stock to double stock in 100 pound increments. If the stock pressure is 1400 pounds we can make MAX pressure plates 1800, 1900, 2000, and so on up to 2800 pounds. This flexibility can only be found at RPS.
RPS’s all new PRO MAX Series is the last pressure plate you will ever have to buy. This pressure plate uses our patented (#6,793,057) segmented heat shield design that helps prevent warpage and is replaceable for the life of your car. If you ever wear out this pressure plate simply replace the segmented heat shields and you’re good to go. These replacement shields sell for a fraction of the cost of a new pressure plate. The PRO MAX is ideal for drag racing applications where short clutch life is the cost of going fast and RPS is helping reduce that cost.

asking my roomie to back out of the driveway, he seemingly burned out my clutch. i am looking to replace with better components to build upgrades to my 03 wrx. i would like to do all the work myself, or with some help (not paying some wrench monkey to do it in his garage). is clutch replacement difficult, as compared to changing intercooler, hoses, intake, brakes ("simple mods") or is that on another different level. im a fast learner and not afraid to dive right into shtuff. i have the shop manuals and all the tools. just wondering if i should brave this myself or if i should let a subaru shop do it? (also interested in purchasing a new clutch) :)

raglan:

It's much harder job to do than brakes, intercooler, hoses etc. It's even harder if you don't have a lift. It take an experieces subaru tech about 3 hrs to do the clutch on a lift.. Definitely not recommend if you haven't done a clutch job before.

I have a JDM 6MT in my car with a Exedy Hyper Single (clutch, PP, Flywheel). It has approx. 35k miles on it. It is in need of rebuilding. Would I go through a vendor to have this service performed? Thank you for your time!

GotHP?

I now have 12k miles on my '04 STi with Autocrossing but no drag strip runs. I'd like to upgrade (lighten) the flywheel...do you think I should do the clutch at the same time, considering it's use so far? For a flywheel, I heard that 9.9 lbs is too light for a daily driver - do you have anything in the 13-14 lb range? I think stock is 18.9?

Thanks

And I'm still tempted by your carbon fiber lip group purchase, need another week to decide...

GotHP:

It depends how bad is the clutch, but at 12K, it should be good enough to hold up. Subaru sell a light weight flywheel for around 14 lbs. Exedy is coming with one that is 13 lbs, but haven't release it yet. I only have Fidanza right now which is 9.9 lbs.

On the lip, we got 15 people to join in 2 days. So let me know.

any torque holding #s for the exedy clutchs? looking into either the exedy stage 4 twin plate or possibly MAX series 6-puck for my STi. you think either of these would be ok for street/daily driving use? any prices on the STi lightened flywheel?

chrisfranklin

i have an 04 sti with 25k on it.
my clutch is starting to slip.
right now i am running approx 280-290whp with cobb stg2 type mods done.
it's possible and likely that i will upgrade the turbo and am shooting for approx 350+whp
what clutch would you recommend for a car that will be daily driven, autox-d lightly next year?
prefer reliability and driveability recommendation over price rec.

1SlowCavalier:

Sorry, i don't have any torque number from Exedy. From what we have seen so far, the Exedy twin plate is very noisy and uncomfortable for street but it's perfect for drag. I will pick the Max series street disc for daily use. Sorry, i don't have a price for STi flywheel. However, i do have Fidanza flywheels for STI.

chrisfranklin:

I will pick the Exedy Hyper Single (stage 3) clutch kit. It comes with a lightened flywheel balanced with the clutch. It not too hard and you can ride the clutch and it will hold up to 400 to 450 torque !!!
