I am going to be entering my '99 RS in the local 4x4 days celebration. Including in the events, is a 200 yard drag race on "a very well groomed, hard-pack dirt surface."

I've autocrossed a ton, and ralyycrossed some, but have never drag raced. I will be running my 15" Mud/Snow tires on a basically stock RS except with KYB AGX struts.

Any advice on tire pressures and strut settings for getting the power down?

if it is really hard packed then you might be better off with diffrent tires... meaby the re-92's if you still have them. I duno...

go easy on your transmition...

heh. I've motorcrossed a lot--often in conditions like you describe, autocrossed a bit, and drag raced my share but I've never done what you're asking about. sounds like fun, btw.

anyway since the car is 50/50 AWD I'd say maintaining load on the front tires will be critical. since the AGXs are single adjustable I'd say make the front full soft and the rear full hard. pressures... gah. whatever usually works with your snows! if you don't have a choice of tires then that's that but if you can pick something a little harder that will work better. soft knobs for soft dirt.

you know what I'd do... practice. try to find somewhere you can somewhat recreate the event surface and experiment with tire pressure, suspension settings, and launch techniques.

Rev it to 7K and drop the sucker. Wheelspin is your friend on dirt..... Just pray that it doesn't do a hop'n stall like most AWD cars that have a clutch drop done to them.
