I want to buy an 04 STI but I have never driven 1. The dealership only has 1 STI and they are reluctant to let me drive it since they wont be getting anymore for 6-8 weeks. I was wondering if any1 would let me take their car for a quick spin so I can get the feel of the clutch and gearbox and just how it drives. I wont accelerate hard or anything cause I know the STI is fast enough. I am worried if its gonna feel to heavy or I wont like the way the tranny/clutch feels. Let me know if any1 is up for letting me drive their car for a few minutes.

I drove an '05 RS for a few days, and I've put plenty of miles on various '03 and '04 WRXs. Compared to the either, the STi feels lighter & much more nimble (though it's certainly not lighter), and the gearbox is snick-snick slick with very close ratios. Once you've had a taste you won't want to go back. ;)

There's an autox (http://www.azsolo2.com/details/event20041107.htm) at Firebird on 11/7. C'mon on up if you haven't been able to do a test drive by then. I'm the only one with a black STi.

Then again, there are three Suby dealers in the Phoenix metro, and if you're really serious about buying (as in ready to do the deal there and then) I'm sure any of them would let you take a test drive.

Keep in mind that with an '04, you'd be buying a car with more than a year's worth of depreciation right off the lot, though the low miles would help that a bit. I'd start off the negotiations on a "0-mile" example below dealer invoice (which was $28,580 plus destination charge of $550 for '04s, + options).

PM me if you're coming up for the autox.

Is the 04 used? I'd say go for the 05... they seem so much more refined... The gearbox shifts nicer, and the wider tires are a nice upgrade. Plus, that new color is sweeeeet.

I think he is talking about the 04 that has been sitting on their lot for at least the past 9 months.

LOL, thanks. I hope I can sell it soon. I am very excited to own an STI. Having a manual tranny is gonna kick butt.

Bah, Emich is bull**** anyways, last time I took my car in for an oil change they spilled my own Mobil 1 somewhere in the engine bay. Though it's understandable that the 04 STI will be considerably cheaper than an 05. I'm satisfied with my 04 except for the fact that I already have a check engine light at 15k miles and my car keeps stalling when I put it in neutral and hold in the clutch to make turns inside the parking garage.

Ya. Emrich is weird. I went to have them do an oil change, and the didn't even use the oil I provided, plus they spilled oil or something cause it was all over the exhaust manifold.

FYI. Try Pitre up in Phoenix. Best place in AZ for Subarus.

Haven't had any problems with Emich. Service advisior is nice...gave me a rental even though you're supposed to be over 25. :p Then again, I only take my car there for its regular service intervals. Oil Changes are done in the carport.
