And, it appears, most OBD-II scan tools will be able to detect the reprogramming. Good luck on your future emissions testing.

Please back this up with documentation. This seems like a rather broad and high handed statement.

Not that it matters, my Cobb AccessPort can replace the stock program if needed.

so what if it detect the programming. an ecutek reflash wont alter the emmisions to the point of testing failure, will it?

i mean, it is not like i am taking out cats and emmisions control modules.

Pretty sure Jon's talking about this thread (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=649636). If/when this is added to an emissions test suite, you'd probably fail the OBD-2 scan portion of the test for an unlisted calibration code. Actual sniffer performance would be inconsequential.

What he is talking about is there are predetermined identifiers that indicate orig. code and programming is being used as well as VIN being returned when queried. When these identifiers are not returned, they they know the code has been altered and the car does not pass emissions.

Here is the thread

i cannot belive what i have read!

so what does this mean, that an 05 reflashed vehicle would never pass emmisions?

what if someone already reflashed their factory ecu and it's time for emmisions, what penalty will there be?

how about this then, purchase another MY05 ecu for your vehicle and have that reflashed instead.....although we are talking about ALOT more money here..........

Speedshift, no one truly knows the answers to your questions yet. It might be some time before this regulation is enforced, if ever, in states outside California. Then again, it could be next year.

KGreb,

Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia make Cali look like a cake walk.

Visual, ODB-II, then a sniffer on the Dyno. Northern Va is "investing" in AWD dynos starting next year since so many cars and SUVs are AWD now making the sniffer test less effective. (Our fair governor can't invest in the roads but he is dumping money into this)

it means couple of things:

cobb and ecutek are slightly behind on their reflashing technology

and it means that even if the vin is replaced it may not pass in california maybe??...

some one need to come up with a way to do an actual backup of the stock ecu so that it can be returned to origional "stock"

ecus are no longer legaly interchangable

means someone needs to get their hands on a subaru select tool ver 3 and report to the community on just what it can do..
