Is this located on the drivers side perhaps? And is there any openings that something could fall into the bell housing and cause trouble? Sounds like a bolt fell into mine or something, call me a dumbass but we were working on my car and we left the intercooler unbolted, the bolts have been sitting on it for a couple days i guess and now it sounds like something fell into something, i dunno what to do, any ideas?

THis is einsti3n, are there any moving compoents twords the rear of the engine compartment.. Thanks for the time guys.

This is soooo lame!! i'm an iiidiot dammit, so i pulled off the intercooler and checked all the spots where something could have gotten in and seriosly i dont see how a bolt could have gotten into anything.... I did go into a couple ditches today on account of the snow up on the hillside and what not but i got out of them fine with some manouvering but i dont think that has to do with it possibly maybe i dunno arrrrrrg. Definatly sounds like its something in the tranny, and only happens when the clutch is out, car runs fine and revs good with the clutch in but the second i let it out you hear this terrible clanking noise, i hate it. I didnt try to drive it or anything, just sitting in the garage. Any ideas guys? I think i'm just gonna take it to a shop cause i really dont have the time to fiddle with it right now, but if anyone knows whats up please help.

Thanks guys, ~Will~

That means when the clutch is out right? I push the clutch in to start the car and it starts up fine, even revs awesome but the second i start to release the clutch i hear that damn noise, sounds like its right underneath the intercooler.....What should i do, where should i take it? Should i try to drive it to a shop or get it towed. What would you guys do, i dont really wanna drive it and **** something else up ya know.....

Thanks for the help, ~Will~

LOL you da man Jerry :disco: I'll call you when i wake up. Could it possibly be that theres very little or no transmission fluid? I havnt checked yet cause the car is.........upstairs in the garage and i dont wanna get up lol but i will in a bit, i read that that can cause noise and what not. I'll call ya in the morn Jerry.

Thanks a lot, ~Will~

Hey that color on that wrx is BEAUTIFUL. I betcha my tranny looks like that as well, only it being the first gear.

Since the noise only happens with the clutch pedal released, it's not the throwout bearing, since it won't even be moving.

More likely it's a broken spring on the clutch disc dragging across the flywheel, or the aforementioned blown gear.
