As the title says, I was wondering , if you reset the ECU will it erase the datalogging? How much info and what kind can they really log into the ECU about my driving habits? Can they tell if you properly broke in your engine? I wish they would disclose that info before you buy! - Arne

Quick go inside grab some tinfoil and wrap it around your skull,
This helmet will protect you but only if its on your head.
be sure to wear it while driving.

Really?? Do you think it would work? I worry it might afect the ecu's learning curve since it won't be able to read my brainwaves! ;) Maybe a wet towel around my head would work better until I can get my **s to Mars :D Thanks for the funny anyways- Arne

I think you're screwed with the datalogging... mine held a CE light for about 3k miles!

The computers in all vehicles have onboard batteries in the event that you unplug your battery. It's kinda like the BIOS on a desktop computer, if you unplug it, it doesn't forget what kind of hard drive you have a week later.
As far as data logging, I think you're all paranoid. I've had the computer out of many different vehicles to rewrite code and remove rev-limiters, etc and I've never found a "data logger." At least not in a sub 30K vehicle. Perhaps BMW, Mercedes and more expensive exotic cars would have it ... but I seriously doubt a 20-25K Subaru would have it.
In fact ... I'm going to take the comptuer out of my car this weekend and prove that we don't have one (2001 2.5RS).

You can still clear the ECU, however, battery or no battery.
I would suspect that it doesn't log anything other than fault codes, but if you clear em, you clear em. Using the proper procedure from the shop manual, my codes cleared immediately. Thankfully (and inexplicably) they have not returned (BPM CEL issue, after second reset...600 miles since).
take care,
