ImprezaRSfan! 10-31-2004, 11:51 PM why would u do that, i would still take the dohc rs heads over the sohc ones. It makes more power up top, and especially if u wanna go turbo use dohc. americanyouth 11-01-2004, 01:07 AM As a few people said in your other thread, it really doesn't make much sense. RyansJDMgc8 11-01-2004, 02:35 AM I would prefer the SOHC heads but wouldn't go through the hassle of re-wiring the engine for heads that would create the same amout of horsepower. simpreza2 11-01-2004, 07:29 AM I know its alot for nothing but my dohc ej25 needs HG, Timing belt, waterpump, ect... and I would do it but I herd that if Im off by one toth on the timing belt I could mess up my whole valvetrain. I have done a ej22 before and when I was off by one tooth it didnt matter and I just fixed it. Also Im having trouble finding a shop that wants to touch my engine. Some of the places that I found that will even do subaru HG's said they do sohc but not dohc. And the cost of having it done is more then me buying a low mileage engine and swaping it in. I would do a ej20t or ej22t swap but I dont have the money right now. americanyouth 11-01-2004, 06:06 PM Sorry I hadn't read your response in the other thread. Honestly, give fixing your ej25 a go. What's the worst you can do? Mess it up? You're already buying another motor. T-Belt's not that hard, take your time and get a buddy to help you hold the pulleys. HGs aren't easy, but I'm sure you can find someone local willing to lend a hand, and its only $80 in parts. The big pain in the ass is pulling the cams from the heads, but its certainly doable. BTW- Loyales are shiz! simpreza2 11-01-2004, 11:29 PM Sorry I hadn't read your response in the other thread. Honestly, give fixing your ej25 a go. What's the worst you can do? Mess it up? BTW- Loyales are shiz! My brother was talking to some kid at BOCES and he said he wants my engine(he has a ej22 and wants a ej25) and will give me 400 for it. So I think Im going to sell it, if I can get $400. Im also thinking of putting a hold on the OB. Im going to fix my OBS and let my brother drive the loyale. Maybe in a month Ill have some more money to buy a ej20t, I hope  Thanks for all the info guys. cjfike 11-01-2004, 11:33 PM SOHC heads breath better than DOHC heads. But I would not do it for this reason. d00f 11-05-2004, 10:37 AM There are durability reasons for getting rid of the phase 1 EJ25. I'm not confident that the heads do bolt up. I think I read somewhere that you can't bolt a twin cam head to the single cam block and vice versa but I may be thinking hondas :) Used phase 2 motors aren't that expensive these days but you will want a '99 motor because it doesn't have the idle air solenoids or MAP sensor. -Michael cjfike 11-05-2004, 04:31 PM You can bolt EJ25 phase 1 or 2 heads to a EJ22 block. Some people turbo that config on an EJ22T block. simpreza2 11-06-2004, 12:44 AM You can bolt EJ25 phase 1 or 2 heads to a EJ22 block. Some people turbo that config on an EJ22T block. I want a 2.2 turbo but I wont pass the new OBDII emissions with the ej22t ecu :( . Now Im thinking of building up a high compression ej22. cjfike 11-06-2004, 01:13 AM I want a 2.2 turbo but I wont pass the new OBDII emissions with the ej22t ecu :( . Now Im thinking of building up a high compression ej22. Use the ECU that comes with the heads and intake manifold. You do not want to use the EJ22t heads, they breath so poorly it ummm... sucks(?). ben_ak 11-06-2004, 02:27 AM I'm not sure why you can't find a shop to replace head gaskets in your area... my shop has done at least fifty 2.5 DOHC head gasket replacements in the past few years. There are updated parts and it isn't really that hard to do. A water pump, head gaskets, and cam belt would run about $1400-$1500 up here (Alaska). Have you tried any shops that specialize in imports? For what it's worth, fix the engine you have... conversions always cost at least twice what you think they will. -Ben simpreza2 11-06-2004, 09:42 AM I'm not sure why you can't find a shop to replace head gaskets in your area... my shop has done at least fifty 2.5 DOHC head gasket replacements in the past few years. I would like the shop be reccomended or a well know shop. I was thinking of bringing it to the dealer just to get it done, but I have 3 subies so I can let this one sit for a little. But I also like the idea of doing an engine swap/build. It might cost a little more but Im getting bored with my cars, this will give me something to do, and Ill have my 1st subie engine swap(I help my brother do his 1st mr2 engine swap) |
