I think by the time you buy everythng to make the emanage work properly and fly somebody over from japan (or where ever) to tune it, it will be a bit cheaper to buy a used UTEC.

I disagree, the E-Manage allows my 93 with a 2.2 N/A long block, 1.8L intake mani, red top injectors run quite well... oh and even at 9psi. As for tuning, it's no so to figure out once you try the real time mapping. Check my site for more info on tuning the E-Manage.

For a WRX, it might be different.

I run emanage on my RST with good results - but if I had the option to run Utec I would in a heartbeat.

anyone can tune an emanage. Its the same basics as a UTECH for fuel control. Timing on the other hand is all offsets - which is where Utec really shines.

If I had a stock timing map for my car, and understood exactly how its load sites are arrived at I would have a much easier time.

get a Utec

if you dont have a lot of money, then any user tuneable solution is not for you. UTEC/Hydra/Link/Emanage all require that either you have a decent amount of tuning knowledge (in which case you wouldnt be posting here asking about it to begin with) or that you pay to have it professionally tuned. The standard charge for real tuning is around $200 an hour, and typically takes 2-3 hours.
At least with the UTEC there are a lot of people that can help you tune it fro free, although that will never compare to a real dyno tune from a pro.

I am no tuning expert and I think the E-Manage is quite simple. If you read up the E-Manage part on my site there are some tuning tips for you.

The e-manage is a good unit but in the wrx's it can be dangerous if you don't know how the factory ignition system works. The stock computer likes to run ALOT of advance in the midrange. If you raise boost and dont account for this with timing adjustments with the emange, you will get detonation and possibly a new set of pistons. With a tuner that knows about subies and emanage, it is a decent cost effective fuel computer.

If money is an issue and you have simple mods, AccessPORT may be a better solution.

There are utecs for sale on here for $500. From what I've seen, the utec helps to make tuning a wrx with a good amount of mods easier and more consistent then if done on an e-manage. Stock ecu fuel trims are your enemy.....

If you're on a tight budget I'd suggest that you call Cobb Tuning ( www.cobbtuning.com ) and ask if they will still do AccessECU flashes. They used to be $400 and they offered a stg 1 (stock+flash) and stg 2 (Turbo back exhuast + flash) Later down the road, when you have more money, you could upgrade to an accessport for $200 and add a VF34 turbo and STi injectors for a quick little car that requires absolutely no tuning! Its the best bet if you have no desire to tune your car and want something thats cheap, reliable and fast.

I've also come across someone selling their used accessport on this forum for $525 shipped. Search and I'm sure you'll find it.
