I recommend you just buy a triband phone from the PH and get the sim card here. I think we are on the 1900 system up here for GSM so you know it would work. When I decide to get the service up here, I'm just gonna have one of my friends in Hong Kong hook me up with a triband from there. I've seen all the GSM phones here and they freakin suck.

Double check what band the GSM operates up here on though. I'm pretty sure it's 1800/1900.

Cellone uses 850 up here. the other us networks are on 850/1900. 800/1800 is overseas. If you go to the PI check out greenhills...the cellphone mecca of asia i tell ya

850, that sucks...but good for 3/4G services. Most asaia is 900/1800/1900. That is their triband. Sony makes a US triband, 850/1800/1900. Pretty nice one too.

Here's a good place to pick up unlocked phones for the US GSM systems. Pricey, but it's unlocked so you can take it to any GSM service.

Years ago I had the Siemens S46 which ran tri band GSM and TDMA so it worked great in alaska. You can probably find one of those for cheap. Worked all over the world.
