I can only hear it when accelerating in 3rd/4th/5th gears. If I accelerated extremely lightly(slowly), there is no whine (that I can hear). If I get aggressive, other noises seem to drown out the whine (maybe just imagining the whine is there). Otherwise this headache inducing whine gets louder the more gas I give. Speed has nothing to do with. Hills (up or down) don't make a difference. Only when accelerating in gears 3/4/5. Any ideas?
Makes me think tranny/diff.

Got a dog-box? :D just being a jerk... anyways, depending on the outside conditions, how much of my interior of my car is installed at the time being, and whether or not I just was blazing music, I can hear my transmission whine almost on a daily basis. The engine definately does drown out the sound tho.
A thing to check would be the tranny fluid level. How many miles are on your subi? Whens the last time you had the fluid changed (trans and diff.)?
