Hey guys,
Its about time for me to get a new clutch and I'd rather do it myself (with my trusty subi service manuals). Any words of wisdom for the install.

About a year ago, a aquaintance of mine used to be a tech as Subaru. He said there was some sort of shaft that nobody had a clue what to do with, to get the transmission off. Clarifications?

There is a guide pin that the clutch fork rides on. There is a hex plug that covers it. You have to remove that, thread a bolt into it, and then pull that pin out in order to get the clutch fork off the throw out bearing so you can pull the transmission back.

If you look through the FSM's, there's a few pics....or there should be. Depending on your skill level, this may or may not be something I'd suggest attempting on your own, unless you have another person there that can help you out if you get stuck.

Regardless you'll need a second person to help getting the transmission out.

and when you change that clutch remember which bolt goes where......

I did this last week with the help of an experienced mechanic. on jack stands.
take your time, if you have airtools (impact gun) use em!
rent a tranny jack if you dont have one.
and make sure you torque the new clutch down right, and get the guide ring in the center on correctly :)
after you seat the tranny up tug on the clutch fork a little to engage the throwout bearing
its messy and alot of work. i did it in this order

day 1:
remove the following:
IC, TBE, Starter Motor, propshaft

day 2: (with help!)
remove the following:
Drive shafts, tranny x member, tranny, clutch, flywheel
and reassemble above

day 3: alone again
put the rest back in!

i work slow, he works fast just take your time and dont lose or strip any bolts!

oh....another tid bit of info.....put the throw out bearing on the transmission snout and install the fork while the tranny is out.....don't clip the TOB into the pp
