hey i think i am going to buy an 02 wrx with a bunch of modifications... i know the owner he is a good guy ... there are no other problems everything in the car is in perfect working order and clean with no scratches...
here's the problem he said that the first gear syncro is going .. now i know that you use syncro's while moving so the transmition wont bog or something like that so that while you are moving you can slip it into gear...

now heres my question can you even replace syncro's or would i be better off just putting a new tranny in ... and if so what should i get, any recomondations are greatly appriciated

thanks guys

Most WRX's cant even shift into first while moving, propably no biggie. How does the car feel during normal driving? BTW, u can always double clutch, thats how u can shift a car with no syncros. Anyone have more info or corrections post.

Ok, here goes.....
If the owner installed an aftermarket clutch there's a possibility that they could have damaged the throw-out bearing. I know because it happened to me when I installed my ACT clutch. This will cause a grinding 1st gear.
Secondly, to do the synchro you are looking at a trans. overhaul which will be around 6-9 hours labor to do at a shop + parts. On a good note, Subaru is supposed to have updated their synchro's. One last option and costly is to install a different gearset since you are getting the tranny overhauled anyhow. Sti gearset or Sti-Ra gearset to be precise. The Sti gearset retains the same gear ratio as the stock does in both 4th and 5th gears, this done for highway. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are slightly shorter for accelaration. The Sti-Ra gearset changes all five gears to a really short set. For ex. at 70mph in 5th gear I now turn 3200RPM!!!!! When I shift into second gear at 7000rpm, the rpm drops only 1500!!! The car stays in the powerband. I'd suggest this gearset for auto-xing. You can find more information at www.rallispec.com
Hope this helps,
Paco

yes it has a new light flywheel and some other clutch stuff... but i mean as long as i dont put the car in first except for after i've already stopped it wouldn't really even make a difference would it ... ?
im really not in the market for auto x'ing it's a street wrx got like 8,000 in mod's ... pretty nice

thanks for the input
